This has been a quiet day at home. I did go to the Grand for lunch, I got lucky and got to see the owner. I have been trying to connect with her for a bit so it was good to have some conversation with her.

I did a bit of paperwork this morning. One of the pen pal volunteers let me know she had been able to send her first letter to her pen pal. Love when that happens. Still waiting on two others to do so. Getting closer to getting everyone connected. I have one that the volunteer wrote but the pen pal never responded. I reached out to the pen pal but I didn’t get a response either. I think they wanted funds in their commissary account and we aren’t able to do that. We will try one more time to connect with them and then let it go.

I woke up around 6:00 this morning and couldn’t go back to sleep so it has felt like another long day. Hope I can get up early tomorrow easily as the dogs have to be in Marion by 8:30. Will have to take them each for a walk before I load them in the car and go. They get their summer haircuts tomorrow. The meeting I had scheduled for tomorrow night got postponed so I won’t have to hurry when I pick them up tomorrow afternoon.

I have been sitting with some myths about the Detention Center that I keep hearing. There is a lot of misinformation out there about who does what and when. Not sure how to correct that or if that is my place to do so. The whole immigration policy is so broken and has so many different places that need fixed. Guess I will continue to state facts as I understand them and keep repeating myself. I may make a myth vs fact post soon.

I have learned so much about our detention policies since I started Love in Action last July. I was so naive and uninformed. I’m grateful that I get to work with one of the better Centers that do there best to treat people in a humane way.

Grateful for a quiet day at home, grateful another pen pal match was made today, and grateful for the knowledge that I am gaining about our detention policies.
