This has felt like a long day. Didn’t sleep well again last night and I was up and going by 6:30. Makes a long day when I get started that early in the morning.
I got an email from the Sergeant that handles the card and stamp program at the Detention Center. She had extra gift cards left over from our Christmas project and decided to offer them to the Detainees to send to their mother’s for Mother’s Day. She needed 30 more! She also said she needed stamps. She wanted me to get them ASAP so she could get them in the cards the Detainees had written out and in the mail.
I left for Emporia at 7:30 this morning. I went to Walmart and purchased the 30 gift cards. I also picked up the groceries I needed. Left there and went to the Post Office to get stamps. They were out of rolls of stamps so had to get the sheets of 20. They aren’t as easy to use as the rolls when you stamp 100 cards at a time but that is all the Post Office had today.
Went to a bank where I have a CD that was up to be renewed. I’m grateful I went in and didn’t let it roll over with the same terms automatically. The bank had a much better rate for a 14 month CD than the 12 month one. I completed the paperwork for that and then came home.
Got the groceries put away and then fixed up the sack of gift cards and stamps and took them to the Detention Center. Someone saw me walking in and came out to greet me and get the cards and stamps.
Am working on doing some laundry but haven’t done much else today. I received a check for a donation today but the lady forgot to sign the check. Oops. I’ve done that before! I will send her a note and ask her to sign the check. I also got a VENMO donation today.
Last night I went to take a bath and couldn’t find the book I had been reading in my chair yesterday. I looked all over the house. Kathy happened to wake up and came out of her room and asked me what I was looking for. She didn’t know where it was either but I went in her room and there it was. Kathy had asked me for a book to read earlier in the day and I gave her a different one to read. I think she must have seen my book lying around and picked it up and didn’t realize it wasn’t the one she had started. All’s well that ends well. My book was found and we found the one Kathy was reading too.
The guy that did the A/C check came a bit early this afternoon. He got the unit all cleaned up and ready for the summer. He liked the room addition. He had been here last fall and we had talked about adding heat and air to the back room. We were never able to get that done but it stayed nice and warm with the space heater. I will be anxious to know how it does this summer in the heat. I may need to get a window unit to put in back there.
Nothing on the calendar for tomorrow. It will be good to have a stay-at-home day. Wednesday I have to make two trips to Marion with the dogs so they can get their summer haircuts and then I have to go to Emporia for a meeting at 5:30. Friday I will be back in Emporia for a birthday lunch for a friend.
Felt good to do a Mother’s Day project for the Detainees. I hadn’t thought to do anything. I’m grateful the Sergeant thought of the idea and that I had extra cash on hand so we could make it happen immediately. Now to think of something for Father’s Day. The Center also let me know that the TV we had given them when we first started got put into use and replaced a much smaller TV in one of the pods. I wonder if they need another TV to have on hand in case one goes out.
I was reading an article about how seniors need to have a hobby when they retire. I decided that Love in Action is my current hobby. It uses my skills and keeps me focused on something positive. It doesn’t cost much for me to do my part. I think that counts as a hobby.
I got a message today from a lady that wants me to do a presentation in August for her church group. That will be fun to do and it is in Emporia so that is close enough.
Grateful for the opportunity to provide another perk for the Detainees, grateful I checked on the rate of the CD that was renewing, and grateful groceries are stocked again.
