I went to bed early last night as we lost power. When the lights came back on 45 minutes later it woke me up. I got up and turned off all the lights and went back to bed. Luckily, I was able to go back to sleep.
Because I went to bed early, I woke up earlier than I like too. It feels like a long day when I get up before 8:00 or 9:00.
I wrote another long post for Love in Action about what I have learned from the Detainees and the process they have to go through these days. It has gotten lots of action, comments, shares. The good news is I have gotten several nice donations and lots more purchases off of the Amazon gift registry. People need to know the reality of the immigration system these days. It is not easy to navigate.
A lady that a friend knows called me this evening for some help. A relative of the lady had been picked up on a moving car violation and then detained. He had an outstanding deportation order against him. He is being held in Chase County. She needed help figuring out how to zoom call with him, deposit funds in the commissary, etc. I also let her know about taking him a Go Bag in case he gets deported. One never knows how fast that happens and he won’t have time to let them know when it is happening. He will just disappear.
It has been a quiet day at home. I did get my written thank you notes in the mailbox at least until the donations started coming in today. I have some email thank you notes I need to send. VENMO gives me email addresses of donors but not mailing addresses. PayPal gives me mailing addresses.
The guy that is updating the website got in touch with me today. He said it won’t be difficult to make changes so I sent him the changes I need. I will double check when he is done and see if I forgot to mention anything. I so appreciate his effort and donation of his time to do that for me.
No plans this week until Thursday. I do need to go to town tomorrow and pick up a prescription that is ready. I would also like to track down some Jonathan apples but I don’t know if anyone has them this year. I should have gone to The Orchard today but didn’t. I may try to go there later this week.
It was so nice today that the temperature dropped. It is very humid out but still better than it has been. It is supposed to be in the 70’s all week. I will take it! Can’t wait to open the windows and let fresh air in.
Grateful for all the donations that came in today. It gives me hope that this Go Bag project will be funded. I still need to look into grants and send some solicitation letters to local churches, etc. It is a bit overwhelming when I think how much I may need to raise but I will take it one step at a time and 100 bags at a time and go from there. So far, the funds have come in for everything I have requested them for.
These two quiet days have been good for my soul. I finally feel grounded again. Writing the article today was good for me too. Sometimes it helps to write things out. I seem to be able to release them better when I do.
Grateful for the response to the note I posted today, grateful for the cooler temperatures, and grateful for another quiet day at home.
