This has been pretty much a recovery day for me. I didn’t sleep very well last night so it has been a low energy type of day.

Kathy and I made the mistake of going downtown around 4:00 to go to the Chase County Days event. It was too flipping hot to be out. My car said 102. I am so grateful there is a cold front coming in to break this heat wave. I am kinda over the heat for the year.

We are in a severe thunderstorm watch for the evening. Doesn’t feel like it is going to rain but these fall systems can move in quickly. Heavy wind and hail is the main threat tonight.

Got my house insurance bill. It is over $300 more than a year ago. I did add a 200 sq foot addition but $300 for that? I think it is time to shop around. Over $2,000 for a 1,200 sq ft house is kinda high, especially since I haven’t had any claims. How do people afford to own a house these days between the rising interest rates, insurance and rising property taxes. Yikes!

Got the first two boxes of things from Amazon people ordered off the Deported Detainee Support Gift Registry. I haven’t opened them yet. I need to decide what I am going to do with them and where to store them. Costco has a storage rack that will hold 12 totes. I am strongly considering ordering that. It would fit in my living room. I rarely have company so it really won’t be in the way. It won’t look nice but that is the least of my concerns.

I will sit with it for a bit and then decide if I want to get it or not. The other option is to store things off site. That has its pros and cons. Since I will be taking bags up one at a time, it sure would be more convenient to have everything here. Trying to imagine how much space 100 filled bags plus extras of everything will take. I don’t have good spatial judgment.

I need to come up with a tracking system of some sort so I know that what people ordered is what I am getting. I never knew for sure when people ordered things that were sent directly to the Center if they ever got them or not. I would feel more comfortable coming up with a system that I can double check to make sure all is well.

I spent some time balancing my Love in Action books today. We get funds from several different sources and sometimes it is a challenge to balance the books. PayPal pays out twice a month automatically except for the birthday fund and that is paid a month after they receive the funds, VENMO I have to request the funds, Zeffy sends funds automatically weekly, checks I deposit and record, Zella pays into my personal account which I then have to transfer. Yikes! No wonder it can take me some time to balance it all.

I feel so responsible handling other people’s money that I keep a very close eye on it to make sure the gift is handled properly. I also struggle to spend the money and ask myself constantly is this really necessary.

No plans for tomorrow although I have a prescription that is ready to be picked up. I also would like to go to the apple orchard and see if the Jonathan apples are ready. They are the only apples I really like and I like to get a bunch when they are in season.

So far next week I have lots of empty space until Thursday. I have to take Roxy to the Vet Thursday to get her stitches out. Friday I have a reception to go to and then a football game to go to watch Ellexia cheer. Saturday I have an event to pop in at for a bit in the afternoon. Trusting the empty space will hold. Sometimes it does, and sometimes not so much.

Someday soon I need to start exploring grants and do some serious fundraising. If the Go Bags are requested at the level of need, we will need 100 – 125 at least a month. They cost about $50 each to put together. That is a lot of money when you multiply that by 12 months. What had I gotten myself into?

Grateful for the air conditioning when I got home from downtown this afternoon, grateful for the friends I got to visit with briefly when we were downtown, and grateful today was a quiet day.
