I had a busy couple of hours in Emporia. I picked up Ellexia from one of her friend’s house that lives in the country. I stopped and filled the car up with gas on our way into town. Then I took the car through the car wash.
I had a haircut at 11:00. We got there a bit early and he was able to take me right in. We got done around 11:20. This was my last haircut from this hairdresser as he is retiring in three weeks. Darn I hate the thought of breaking in a new one.
Then Ellexia and I went and had a pedicure. I had one toe that still had polish on from the last one we did earlier in the summer. It is nice to have all ten toes painted again. I love when the lady rubs my calves – she could do that for the whole thing as far as I am concerned.
After our pedicure we went to Bobby D’s and Jason joined us for lunch. After lunch I took Ellexia home and then I came home. I feel like I got a lot done during this trip to town.
The UPS guy came with three packages that others had ordered for Love in Action. It will feel like Christmas here for the next couple of days as the packages get delivered. I will enjoy getting all the things washed up and put into tubs or else into a backpack. What a delight it will be to present a full backpack to a released detainee the next time I do a transport.
I only ordered one each of the different sizes of clothing I needed and only two backpacks. I will reorder whenever I use one to give to a released detainee. I have very limited storage space and I don’t transfer enough released detainees to keep lots on hand all the time.
I have nothing on my calendar for the next three days. I am so looking forward to the empty space. For some reason lately, I have been feeling very tired and needing lots of sleep when I can find it. I will allow myself to sleep as much as I possibly can during the next three days and see if I can get caught up. I haven’t felt fully rested for a long time.
I do need to take a deposit to the bank tomorrow. I had meant to do that today and forgot. Good thing the bank is only six blocks from my house. That won’t take long!
I still feel like I am behind on something and have no idea what. Maybe whatever it is will be dropped back into my memory banks this week and I can take care of it. Or maybe it is not even true that I am behind on something. My brain does funny things to me sometimes.
Friday is my birthday and pizza day at the Detention Center. I wish I could be with the Detainees as they get their surprise pizza party. I trust they will enjoy it as that is a treat they don’t ever get while being detained.
I want to start working on a staff appreciation gift for the staff at the Detention Center. I think I know what I want to do but it has a lot of pieces to it and I will need to price everything out. They have a staff of 75 so it adds up quickly when you do that many of anything. I don’t have a deadline to have them ready – I can take them up whenever. I think it is important to thank the staff that help make Love in Action happen and all the staff have a part to play in it through the year.
The Sergeant that handles the cards and I are brainstorming to come up with ideas for the rest of the year. I need to put together a budget and see how much what we want to do will cost and then fundraise if needed to make it happen. People are so incredibly generous when I present an idea and request funds. I balance that with over asking though as I don’t want to burn people out with me asking for things all the time.
I am attempting to find my peaceful valley again and sit in silence and quiet for a bit. Life got busy on me again and I lost my place. Trusting this week will allow me to slow way down again and sit in silence and quiet. The world noise feels loud in my ears and heart and I need to quiet that down. So much going on that I have no control over and nothing I can do about it. I need to find the quiet space where what I can do something about is front and center in my heart.
Grateful to spend time with Ellexia today, grateful for lunch with Jason, and grateful for pretty toes again.
