No sleep at all last night. I kept laying in bed for an hour, get up for an hour, rinse and repeat all night long. Not sure what was going on but sleep was not to be found.
Kathy and I met some friends in Strong City and then we drove to Council Grove and picked up another friend. Drove to Manhattan and had lunch. Another friend joined us for lunch.
We had a nice, long lunch with lots of conversation. It was a delight for all. After lunch we walked downtown and stopped in a couple of stores. I found some greeting cards I liked and purchased. Came home after that.
I haven’t done much since I got home. I did manage to stay awake so hoping I will be able to crash soon and get lots of sleep tonight.
Kathy has had a rash under her chin for a day or two. This afternoon it was swelling a bit so she went to Urgent Care. She has shingles. They gave her three prescriptions so hoping she will get some relief soon. I had shingles a while ago and they are not fun.
A lady that works as a volunteer transporter with a detention center in Springfield, MO called me today and we visited for over an hour. She shared how they handle their transportation team and how the facility works. I shared what I am doing. I picked up a few good ideas that I may implement. It is so hard to know what the demand is going to be for the future. I have only transported four released ICE Detainees and the father of another one. I think I will continue as we are doing unless the demand picks up.
It is interesting how the different facilities operate and what volunteers are allowed to do. I have a much better working relationship with the staff of my center than they have. Their facility is twice the size though. They do much more family contact than I do. I am able to do more for the Detainees inside the facility than they are able to do. Grateful for whatever we are able to do.
Tomorrow I have a doctor’s appointment in Emporia at 9:00. Afterwards Ellexia and I are going out for breakfast/brunch. After that I am hoping I can come home and stay home for a few days. I am missing my quiet, stay-at-home days this week.
I do need to find someone to come over and fix a router problem I am having with the new website. I need to change some settings on my computer and router and I have never done that before. I would love to find someone that understands this stuff come over and do it for/with me. I got the name of someone that might help today and I will contact them tomorrow afternoon and see if they will come over.
I called and made a final appointment to get my haircut with my current hairdresser before he retires the first week of September. Dang, I will have to train someone new to cut my hair. Maybe I will grow it out and quit cutting it. Not very likely that will happen though. Long hair drives me crazy.
I need to get caught up on writing thank you notes for Love in Action. I think I have five or six to write. Maybe I can get that done tomorrow afternoon. I’m too tired to attempt it tonight.
One of the ladies at the lunch today, took the patches a friend had made and brought to the Love in Action birthday party and pasted them on card stock and turned them into a birthday card. How very creative. I will send pictures to the maker of the patches as I think she will like to see those. Another idea for her on what to do with the patches. Brilliant!
Feeling like I am running behind today. Two days in a row of not tending to the little tasks that I normally do in a day. Maybe I can catch up Thursday when I will finally have a stay-at-home day.
Grateful for a gathering of my best friends today, grateful for a long conversation with another volunteer doing similar work, and grateful for all the sleep I am going to get tonight.
