This day had another plot twist thrown in for kicks and giggles. Keeps me on my toes.

Kathy and I went to the gym this morning and met with the owner Jerod. He is so kind, a good listener and really came up with a program for each of us that feels doable. I find most trainers get set in their ways on what they want you to do and don’t listen. I told Jerod I get overwhelmed easily and want to start out slow and add on things as times goes on. He got that! He stuck with us and taught us what to do.

We plan on going daily to use the bike and then every other day we will add the resistance training. I think I can keep this up as Kathy will be going with me.

After we were done at the gym I decided to go to Wichita and get my Costco shopping done. We really needed a new vacuum so Kathy and I headed for Wichita. We were going to eat at Chipotle but they were closed due to the boil water order in Wichita.

We went to Costco and overfilled a cart. I found a vacuum and a whole cart load of shit I didn’t know I needed. After we checked out we ate at their lunch counter and then came home.

I had just gotten on the Turnpike when the Detention Center called and asked if I could transport someone to Wichita. Sure, but I have to get home and unload the car first and then I would come get her.

Her name is Helen and her birth country is Nigeria. Her family lives in Maryland and she works and lives in Larned, KS. Her car was in Wichita and she wanted to get her car so I drove her there.

Her problem is no one seems to know what ICE did with her driver’s license and other personal documents. They may be at the Wichita ICE office or at the KCMO office. I called the Captain of the Chase Center facility and she is going to help track them down.

Helen can’t drive without her driver’s license as if she did and got pulled over, she would immediately go back into detention and then they would have a reason to deport her.

She has my number and will call me if she needs help getting them tomorrow. I am attempting to find someone from Wichita to help her go to their office tomorrow if that is where her documents are. If they are in KC I am going to find someone to go with me to pick her up in Wichita, then they will drive her car to KCMO, and ride home with me. I will take Helen in my car to KCMO.

She has to be in Baltimore, Maryland, Monday, September 21 for a mandatory court hearing. If she misses it, an order for deportation will be placed against her. She can’t drive there until she gets her license and she can’t fly there without an ID.

We shall see what happens tomorrow. Hopefully her documents are in Wichita and she can retrieve them in the morning and get home to Larned tomorrow and then get to Maryland this weekend.

Dang, ICE makes this tough and sets people up to fail.

Not sure making two trips to Wichita was on my Bingo card today. She was a delightful young woman and much appreciated the drive and potential help tomorrow. Makes it all worth it!

Not much empty space time today! Maybe tomorrow if I don’t have to drive to Wichita and then to KCMO. We shall see what happens.

Picked up part of the Halloween candy for the Center today. They had it on sale. I think it was last year that it was hard to find closer to Halloween. I still need to get some Mexican candy and then I can fill the bags and be ready. Have six weeks until Halloween but the way time is flying by, I like to have things in the house way before I need them.

No plans for the weekend. Downtown Cottonwood Falls is having some sort of goings on Saturday so may walk down and check that out. Not much for crowds so doubt I stay long. We shall see.

Nothing on my calendar for next week other than going to the gym. I’m excited to start working out again and Kathy and I promised each other we would nag the other into going. Hoping with an accountability partner I will do better this time. It also helped that Jerod showed me what to do.

I’m tired tonight. I don’t normally drive over four hours in a day. Thankful I went to Wichita instead of KCMO for the second trip of the day. Trusting the documents will be in Wichita tomorrow and I won’t have to go to Wichita and then KCMO tomorrow. I will if needed though.

I feel like I am on a world tour without leaving KS. First the man from Afghanistan, then the young man from India, the father from Palestine, the young lady from China, the young man from Russia and now a beautiful woman from Nigeria. We are the world!

Grateful another detainee was released, grateful for the volunteers that will come forward and help me out tomorrow, and grateful for my first day back in the gym.
