Kathy nor I slept much at all last night. Not sure what is up with that. We both tried all our tricks and none of them worked. I attempted a nap this afternoon and couldn’t find sleep then either.
I went to the post office this morning and got some stamps. I took part of them by the Detention Center and brought the rest of them home. I bought extras as stamp prices are going up next week.
I fixed both of my license plates on the cars. There is a new state law that went into effect July 1 giving cops the right to pull one over if any part of the information on the license plate is covered by a plate frame. Both of my cars had plate frames from the dealership where I purchased the car from and the frame covered the top part of the word Kansas on the plate.
I didn’t have too much trouble taking off the plates but then I needed to order more screws to hold the plate firm. The plate frame held the plate in place with only two screws and now I need four.
I called the Sheriff’s office and asked if they would have a public service day where people could come in and get assistance with making sure their plates are now legal. I’m not sure he knew what I was talking about but since I have noticed he put a post up about the change. He hasn’t offered up an assistance day but still might do that.
I don’t think some people could manage to fix their plates themselves. Supposedly you can get up to a $2,500 fine plus jail time although here is to be a six-month warning time.
This new change seems likely to me to be a way that cops can racially profile drivers and it will be another way for them to justify pulling over someone that doesn’t look white. I may be wrong but given our current legislation in KS I would be surprised if I am.
I sent a text to my kids to let them know about the change. Not sure what they will do about it but they have been warned. To all my friends on here, take heed.
Haven’t gotten much done today. I’m very tired and have no energy. I may get something done later, but not counting on it. Maybe tonight will be the night I get lots of sleep and will have the energy to get lots done tomorrow.
Not sure if I will go to the festivities in town tomorrow evening or not. I know I won’t stay to see the fireworks. If it is as hot tomorrow as it has been today I probably won’t go. I don’t enjoy crowds on a good day and when you add the heat to the mix I don’t see much to attract me to go.
No plans for the weekend or next week for that matter. Lots of empty space ahead for me. It is too hot to go outside and do much so I will enjoy my time as a hermit and stay in. Hopefully I will find things inside to keep me busy.
The birthday party for Love in Action is July 11 so it is just a little over a week away. I got some more supplies today that I had ordered from Amazon for the party. Still waiting on one more shipment than I think I have all I need. The day before the party I will go to Emporia and pick up the cake and cupcakes, the ice cream cups and ice for the beverages. The food is being delivered the day of the party so I won’t have to deal with that. I trust I have ordered enough food and that some people will come. I look forward to meeting some of the supporters.
This has been one of those days where it is hard to hold on to a thought. My brain feels quiet and empty today. It was over used yesterday so I am grateful for a quiet day today.
Grateful the stamp supply has been replenished, grateful for A/C that works on this hot and humid summer day, and grateful I was able to fix my license plates so they are now legal.
