The first work day for the Go Bags is complete. It is amazing how fast eight women can get things done when they get busy. We managed to get all the underwear, socks, bras, t-shirts, sweat shirts, and back packs sorted and tags cut off. We filled five trash bags with packing plastic and tags.
It took us a little over two hours to get it all done. We did take a short break but worked hard for two hours. I can’t imagine how long it would have taken me if I had tried to do it all by myself.
Next up for the Go Bags is the first laundry day Thursday. We will get the socks washed up and maybe some of the underwear. Not sure how much will fit into four regular washers and two big ones. We will take some sweat shirts to use as fillers in the washers as it is not recommended to wash socks only in a load.
Have two totes of socks to wash, two totes of underwear, two totes of T-shirts plus some leggings and lots of sweat shirts. We have three wash days to get it all done. We shall see how much we can get done. I will probably start washing sweat shirts as we have over 100 to wash and we won’t get all them done. I am more concerned about getting the smaller items washed and folded.
Not sure I want to be the one that matches all the socks but they are at least sorted by sizes so that will help. We will launder things by size so we don’t have to read the tiny tags to know what size we are working with.
I am one tired puppy tonight. I did a lot of lifting of totes today and moving things around. I kept busy keeping the seven helpers busy and keeping the trash bags moved when they were full.
Two of the people that came I had never met before. It is so fun to put a face to a name of the members of Love in Action. I got a chance to visit with one of them but then it got busy and I didn’t get to visit with the other one as much. I trust they all had a bit of fun while they were working.
Tomorrow I am working at the Friends of the Library Book Sale from 1:00 -3:00. I will go early or stay late and get a couple bags of books for me. Depending on what position I work during the sale I might be able to shop while I work. Sometimes I work the cash table and I don’t get to shop if I work there.
Wednesday is the ribbon cutting for the new piece of exercise equipment at the Detention Center. I’m excited to see it in place.
Thursday and Friday are wash days. It will be good to get things washed up and ready to be packed into the Go Bags a week from Wednesday.
Today went about the way I expected it to go. It was hard for me to guesstimate how long it would take. We had a good two hours of work for them to do. Conversation flowed and it felt productive, at least to me.
I need to do my personal laundry tomorrow. I will have to sneak it in between loads of sweat shirts. Wonder what my water bill will be for this month. I did 24 loads washing blankets and another 20 loads washing sweat pants.
Had to open the windows this afternoon to cool the house down. This morning I was running my little space heater. Eight working women warm up a room quickly!
I missed my big country house today. We would have had so much more room to work. We made do today but it was a bit tricky at times. I did get everything cleaned up after everyone left and that went fairly quickly. First time I have really missed the big house in over two years.
May be an early bedtime for me tonight. I am tired. Didn’t feel my best earlier but made it through. Didn’t make it to work out today but got a good workout during the two hours work time. My back is a little sore tonight from lifting all the totes.
So very grateful for the helping hands today. Oh my goodness, it would have taken me a long time to get all that done alone. People are so generous with their time and effort.
Grateful for the helpers today, grateful the tags and packaging is off and the items are ready to be washed, and grateful for mostly a rest day tomorrow and Wednesday.
