Just got home from the EHS football game. I left after halftime. My granddaughter Ellexia is a cheerleader so I went to watch her cheer. The track was wet so they couldn’t do any stunts tonight. It was nice to sit with Michelle and visit with her while I was there.
Before I went to the football game I went to the farewell bash for retiring Captain Jay. Two of the people I work with at the Center through Love in Action were responsible for the party. They did a great job. I didn’t know too many people there but was able to talk to a few of the staff from the Center. Jay will be missed. It was obvious his staff appreciated him.
Didn’t do much at home today. I didn’t feel my best today. I wasn’t really ill but wasn’t 100% either. I sat in the in-between space most of the day. I took good care of myself and am feeling better tonight.
I did double check all the goods that have arrived from Amazon via the Released Detainee Gift Registry. I found I am missing two packages of women’s leggings and the package of note pads. The note pads I could track and for some reason they have gotten delayed in shipment. Interestingly, both of the orders for the leggings show no tracking available. I sent a message to one of the people that ordered them and asked her to check on them. Not sure why there was no tracking information available. The other three packages of leggings had come in.
I think my handyman is coming over tomorrow to put the rack together that will hold the 12 totes full of supplies. The rack is partially put together and is in the middle of my living room. It is hard to get out the front door right now. The totes themselves came in today and I left them on the front porch as I don’t have any room to put them. Hopefully that mess will get sorted out tomorrow and I can place items in the totes which will be in the rack.
I got notification that the bulk order has shipped. I was surprised that they are shipping individual boxes – I think I have 15 boxes coming. It will be interesting to see if they show up all at once or if they come one by one. Once those are here I can start scheduling the parties to help sort everything and get the backpacks ready to go.
If it isn’t raining tomorrow I have somewhere to go in the afternoon. I’m not going if it is raining. I do need to buy some groceries so will do that rain or shine. No plans for Sunday and Monday morning I have to go to Emporia and get some CPAP supplies. I have a Zoom meeting Monday afternoon. The rest of the week is empty space.
I scheduled my flu and Covid shots for October 5. Sometimes I have a reaction to the Covid shot for a day or so. Last year I didn’t. Kathy had hers earlier in September and had no reaction.
Time to start working on the month end report for Love in Action. This month has flown by again. It was a busy one for Love in Action and it will take me a bit to write the report. We raised lots of money but I spent a lot too with the big order for the bulk items for the Go bags.
As I was driving home this evening I got to enjoy the full harvest moon. There was a rainbow all around the edges of the moon. I am grateful I got to enjoy the sight of the full moon. Since I moved to town, I don’t follow the cycle of the moon as closely as I did when I could see it easier. It did my heart good tonight to spend some time with her.
Did some research today and confirmed that hiring an undocumented person is considered a more explicit violation of the US Criminal code than simply being undocumented. Wonder why we are picking up the undocumented and not going after the business owners? If we really wanted to go after the criminals, we would go after the business owners.
Sitting with a feeling that ICE will be in our neck of the woods next week. I trust I am wrong. I can’t imagine what families are feeling right now. I wish others realized the obstacles that have been placed in front of our immigrants and how challenging and long the process is to get documented. I am tired of reading the comments that said they should have done things the right way. Heavens knows, most of them have but our government has made it impossible for them to complete the process now. Court dates are years out and even thought they are in the process, they are being taken and deported, most without a criminal record.
This has been a hard week watching what happened in western Kansas. I can’t imagine the disruption that it has caused and will continue to cause. I can’t quite wrap my head around the fact that the immigrants are being treated so badly. All because they have a different skin tone? I trust things will correct themselves, sooner rather than later.
Grateful to see Ellexia cheer tonight, grateful to be a part of celebrating the Captain’s retirement, and grateful to be feeling better this evening.
