Last night’s lunar eclipse was amazing to watch. I went out many times to watch the moon change from full to looking like a pac man was eating it. It did turn red around 11:00. There was a beautiful moon bow around it for part of the time. I love events like this.
Didn’t sleep much last night. Woke up at 4:00 and finally gave up around 7:00. I did take two naps today but still do not feel rested, My tummy has felt a bit upset today.
Haven’t done much today. Got one more thing cleaned today and am going to call that my win of the day. I must have been running on empty as it is taking me a long time to refill completely. I don’t have anything this weekend so hoping my energy will come back if I give myself grace and rest for the rest of the weekend.
I don’t have anything on my calendar until next Friday the 4th. I have to go to Topeka for a Doctor’s appointment and that is the day the Center is handing out donuts. I still need to confirm the pickup time with the donut place. The lady that manages the Center part of those special events is sometimes slow in telling me what time she wants things there and then has a tendency to change it last minute.
I will go to the donut shop tomorrow and give them a time early in the day and then go from there. I will have to get them before 8:00 so I have time to get back to Cottonwood Falls, drop them off and then get on the highway to go to Topeka as I have a late morning appointment. Not sure if she is passing them out in the morning or afternoon.
I will ask her about gallons of chocolate milk and providing cups. Individual jugs are too expensive. I may have to go to several stores to get 15 gallons of chocolate milk though. Sometimes this gets more complicated than I think it should. I will have to buy the milk that morning as I don’t have storage space for 15 gallons of milk. If she can’t mess with gallons of chocolate milk, we will skip the milk. I can’t justify spending over $300 for 200 individual jugs of milk.
Hoping to hear from the Center about permission to provide Go Bags for the Deported Detainees next week. Also the piece of exercise equipment is overdue to arrive and should arrive next week. If we get permission, I will get busy spreading the word and finding suppliers that can provide the bulk items I will need. We need to be prepared to provide at least 100 bags a month, and they may need more. I will also have to find a storage and work space we can use to store the materials needed and assemble them into the backpacks.
Today I got a text from a person I met during the Senator race this summer. She wanted to know if I knew a Pastor Sanchez from Jackson County. I didn’t think I did so she put us in touch as he is working with a Detainee being held in Chase County right now. Turns out he is Hector Sanchez who I met 25 years ago when he worked in Emporia. He called and we had a nice conversation. Unfortunately, I am not able to help him as he was looking for an attorney for his friend that is detained. I don’t have a list of attorney’s for immigrants. Not sure it does any good to spend the money to get one as most are being turned down anyways.
Hector’s youngest daughter was born when I was working with Hector and his wife Sherri back when. His daughter is now a mother of two and is 23 years old. How time flies! It was good to reconnect with him. He and Sherri had gotten divorced just a year after Craig and I did. Both of them have remarried.
This little project keeps connecting me to people from my past. That is the second one that I have been able to connect with since I started this project. Funny how that works.
Feel like I am on hold right now. If the Go Bag project is a go I am going to get busy. If it doesn’t then life will go back to calm. We shall see what happens. I may not know for a bit too. I have another little project that has been pending for a bit too. I called yesterday to check on it and the lady didn’t call me back. Not sure what to read into that. I am also waiting on a check from someone. All three will work themselves out in their time – just not my time.
Grateful for another quiet day at home, grateful for more sleep today, and grateful to reconnect with Hector.
