We lucked out with the weather last night. The heavy stuff went around us. We ended up with some rain but not the big amounts that others around us got. It has been a misty, cloudy, wet day.
I left for KC at 9:00 this morning. Had a quick and smooth trip up. Went to Nicole’s house and gave her my passport so she could check me in with the tour group. She kept my passport so she can pre-check us in for departure flights the 3rd.
I met a lady at Costco that had a box of donations for Love in Action. We made the transfer of the box from her car to mine. I then parked my car and went in to get some things. Parking was at a premium for some reason today and I had to park in the south 40.
Got the few things I needed and a few more things I didn’t know I needed. The lines were long at the check-out but they moved quickly.
Went to Chipotle for lunch and then came home. Traffic was heavier coming home. I had to check a couple times to make sure it was Wednesday and not Friday. Not sure why there was so much traffic at Costco and on the road home. I was lucky that I didn’t run into heavy rain on my trip either way. This morning on the way up it was misting but never had more than that all day.
Kathy helped me get my car unloaded when I got home. I took a short chair nap. I turned my little heater on and found a blanket. My body is not used to it being low 60’s during the day. My bones were cold!
Am working on getting the sweat pants washed up. The sweat shirts will be here early next week and we can use those to put in with the socks and underwear to balance out the loads. I am a bit concerned that the medium sized sweat pants are too small. I just opened another box of them and these are bigger size Medium than the first box. I will use the smaller ones for the women and the bigger ones for the men. I haven’t looked at a pair of men’s medium sweat pants in a long time but compared to the XL they are tiny. Oh well, they are what they are and they will have to do. It will be almost impossible to fit each recipient perfectly.
My class for tomorrow night was canceled which didn’t hurt my feelings. I now have a free day tomorrow. Yay! I need to take a check up to the Detention Center and pay for the 170 phone cards that will be given to the Detainees for their Christmas present. I also need to go advance vote.
In the midst of a tough boundary lesson from someone I got to know a while ago. What they are asking for is impossible for me to provide and their story is becoming a bit hard to believe. I had crossed some boundaries with them some time ago and now know why I need boundaries in place. Some lessons are hard for me to understand until I have a painful life lesson. Think I got this one now! At least this time!
I need to spend some time tomorrow finding my living room. My couch is covered with what I bought at Costco today plus the contents of the box of goods that was donated. I am almost out of floor space from all the boxes that are in it. I’m grateful that we start the assembly process of the Go Bags next Monday as I am running out of bandwidth to cope with the clutter in my house.
The good news is I don’t need to clean my living room as I can’t find the floor to do so! Wonder what things look like behind the boxes that have been sitting in here for a couple of weeks? Don’t look, don’t care, don’t tell is my new motto.
Got an email from the company I had ordered the Hoodies from. The refund goes into a “wallet” they hold until I use it for other merchandise. Although I can request a full refund once my order is cancelled which it has not been yet. I will request a refund and am not going to reorder them in a different color. Their customer service has been impossible to reach. The lady that was to have called me today to resolve this situation cancelled the call without an explanation. I don’t want to do business with this company any more even though their prices are very low. I guess you get what you pay for and I am backing away. Betting it takes a couple months to get my refund.
Sitting with my feelings about the state of the world tonight. Two situations popped up for me today that drove home the real ramifications of what our immigration policy is doing to real people. I need to allow myself some time to allow my anger to be heard and then find a way to let it soften me so I can continue to do what I can to help those in need. Damn, it doesn’t feel like enough some days!
Grateful for a safe trip to KC, grateful to get to see Nicole and Geoff for a hot minute today, and grateful I know how to feel deeply and then let it soften me.
