This day started off early as I woke up and couldn’t go back to sleep. Hoping I can get a nap later but we shall see. I tried once and couldn’t sleep.

I went on-line and PayPal had sent the two small deposits to the Love in Action account. I wrote those down and was able to confirm the banking information. The next step was is confirm we are a charity and that the funds will go into the Love in Action account.

I ran into problems with this step. I started on my desktop and they needed a copy of the bank statement. I am not good with navigating files and had trouble figuring out how to scan something and then find it so I could send it to PayPal. Switched to my phone and attempted to scan with it. Ran into troubles with that.

Attempted the process from the beginning on my phone and discovered the phone would allow me to take a picture of the bank statement. The desktop did not let me do that. Got that accomplished and am now waiting for them to approve it.

Dang, this stuff isn’t easy sometimes. This whole process has taken forever. I attempted to do it before we were an approved 501(c)3 organization and they wouldn’t approve me. Then I attempted it after I got notification of our approved 501(c)3 status but it took the government six weeks to update their files and put us on the list. I am closer this time so we shall see what happens.

VENMO is so much easier but technically I can’t use it for the 501(c)3 due to the end-of-the-year reporting requirements. I hate to pay PayPal funds for doing the same thing VENMO does for free though.

I got an email from the Sergeant that manages the card and stamp program at the Detention Center. She let me know her supply of cards was low. I put a note on the Love in Action Facebook page that I had added cards to the Amazon Gift Registry. Within hours six boxes of cards were purchased and they are on their way to the Center.

My neighbor has offered to mow for us. We were negotiating price this morning and I offered her 1/3 of 1/2 of a beef that is coming my way early August. She was excited to accept that offer. I am excited she has agreed to mow. We will also be dog sitting her dog when they go on vacation in July. I. Much refer bartering with my neighbors than paying someone cash.

I put on my big girl panties and Kathy and I loaded the broken lawn mower to return to Walmart. We didn’t have the receipt so I wasn’t sure what they would do. To my utter amazement they didn’t ask any questions and fully refunded me the purchase price. Wow! I was impressed.

While we were at Walmart I got the 175 bottles of Coke I needed to buy for the Detention Center Father’s Day event. I also picked up another TV for them as I was informed that they put the spare one we had provided into use this week.

We went to the Detention Center when we got back in Cottonwood Falls and three people came out and helped us unload the pop and TV. Had a great conversation with the Captain and Lieutenant that manage the Center.

Lots of things done this morning. Returning the mower was big for me. I was concerned there would be an issue as I didn’t have the box or receipt and there was no issues at all. The PayPal change has been on my pending list for months. I am so close to having that finalized. Bartering with my neighbor was also easy and fun. I feel like I did a week’s worth of work in a couple hours this morning.

The biggest bummer of the day was finding out the free phone calls for the Detainees is off the plate for this weekend. There was a miscommunication thing that happened within the Center and they can’t make it happen. We talked about several options to make it happen for a different holiday and haven’t found an easy work around yet. I also found out the Captain is retiring later this year. They haven’t named his official replacement yet. Yikes! Trusting whoever is named will continue to let us work with them and allow Love in Action to continue to support the Detainees.

Time for me to turn my brain off and find some quiet space. I don’t usually deal with this many things in one day and am feeling a bit overwhelmed. Luckily, I don’t have anything on my calendar for a bit and will have lots of down time over the next couple of days/weeks. Nice to get some things that have been pending off my plate.

I will start working on the birthday party details soon. Some of the things I need to plan out ahead of time but most can wait till it is closer. I have the date, place, time and entertainment nailed down. I have my list of things I need to take care of made. I will work my way through the list and prioritize it so I take care of the things that I need some lead time with.

Grateful for the easy mower return, grateful the pop and TV are at the Center, and grateful for the bartering exchange with my neighbor.
