I have spent the afternoon helping Jim lay a wood floor. My job has been to use the nailer gun that is powered by an air compressor. We are about half way done and Jim had to run to the lumber yard to get more wood planks. We need to get this job finished tonight as the air compressor needs to be returned in the morning. May be a late night.
We have figured out how to make it go a bit faster. The wood Jim got was seconds and several have been warped badly. If we cut the long pieces into two or three smaller pieces they fit better and it doesn’t take so long to fight with them to try to get them straight. Once we figured that out the project has moved along a bit quicker.
I think I am going to be sore tomorrow. I’m using muscles I forgot I had. Jim has had the hardest job though as he has been on his knees pounding the planks together and than having to get up and cut them to fit.
It is interesting to me to learn how to do a project like this. Yesterday Jim finished laying the underlay board. Tomorrow he will sand the floor and apply the first coat of polyurethane. It will take three coats to complete the job.
After the floor gets done we need to Sheetrock the ceiling and walls. One of Jim’s son will probably help him do that project as I’m not sure I am strong enough to be of much help. They may choose to work on a different project too. We have plenty of projects to choose from.
We went to church this morning. Every time I go I meet more people. Haven’t gotten all the names figured out yet but am working on it.
We went to Walmart after church as Jim’s car starter needed new batteries. We got a few things for the stocking stuffers while we were there. Not sure we have everything we need but we will find some time and sort it all out and see what we still need. We still have two days to shop.
I made taco soup this morning and put it in the crock pot. Sure made the house smell good all afternoon. I had a bowl while Jim went to Lowe’s. He said he would eat later. I don’t like to eat very late at night and he prefers to eat late.
It will be nice to see Jim’s sons. One of them is driving in from CA today with his girl friend and the other Jim will go pick up at the airport in Oklahoma City tomorrow late afternoon. Not sure when they will be over to see Jim other than Christmas Day evening they will be over to have dinner with us.
Tuesday night we will all go to the Christmas Eve service at the church at 11:00 pm. Both sons will sing in the choir with Jim. I look forward to attending a Christmas Eve service. It is one thing I have missed since I stopped going to church years ago.
Jim will be back any minute now so best wrap this up so I am ready to go back to work and get this project done. Maybe by midnight the floor will be down and ready to be sanded tomorrow.
Grateful for this new learning experience, grateful my body is allowing me to do physical labor without complaining too much, and grateful Jim’s sons will be here soon.
