This has been mostly a quiet, stay-at-home day. Haven’t gotten much done. It is hot as can be outside. Not fit for man or beast.
The new printer I ordered came in today. It gave me a run for my money to get it up and running but I persisted and did it! Man, I wish they would have someone that doesn’t speak computer proof their directions and translate them into plain speak. The new paper tray isn’t as deep as the old one I had. I don’t print that much these days so don’t think it will be an issue. The new printer’s copies are sure darker and easier to read. The old printer is over six years old so I think I got my money out of it. Those things have a planned obsolete timing to them. I’m surprised it lasted as long as it did.
I listed on Chase County Cares and Shares my old printer. It has a brand new drum and toner in it plus I have an extra toner. Someone responded and they are coming to pick it up tomorrow. Grateful someone can use the parts and they won’t go to the dump. Not sure if they will take the old printer or not. Either way, the good stuff will get used.
I had a bacon and tomato sandwich for an early lunch. It was good but I could feel the tomato burning my tummy all the way down. I sure like fresh, garden tomatoes but my tummy does not. I also had two ears of fresh corn on the cob today. I don’t like eating it off the cob but man is it good. Garden produce at its best!
I went to the Dollar General and got a bag of ice and some more distilled water. Found a basket that will work for the blankets in my living room. I had them piled behind my chair and wanted to do something better with them. I might look for a nicer basket another day but this one will do until then. Not worth going shopping for a better one.
Got word from one of the Pen Pals that he decided to voluntarily sign his deportation papers. He is afraid, even if he does manage to get released, that he will be murdered by ICE. I don’t blame him. I did some research about Germany and how they are accepting the deportees and man are they doing it right. They have offices in all the major airports that accept the deportees and help them get to a shelter, get the proper paperwork, etc.
This guy has a home life that is anything but stable and he wasn’t sure it was a safe place to return to if he got released. Since he was going to have to start over anyways, he decided to go back to Germany and start over there. Sounds like they will help and support him more than the US will.
People are being forced to make decisions that no one should have to make these days. Why oh why are so many in the US afraid of people that don’t look like us? Not that long ago, our ancestors were immigrants. I just can’t wrap my brain around the hate and fear that is so strong in this country right now.
Did some work on the numbers for Love in Action today. We have raised over $19,000 in our first year of service. That doesn’t include all the goods that were shipped directly to the Center or ordered through the Amazon gift registry. Wow! That is impressive! Wonder what our second year will bring?
Feeling a bit restless today. Kathy has been restless today too. Too hot to get out and walk it off. And this too shall pass.
Grateful for the Pen Pal program and the ability to be a listening ear to the Detainees, grateful to Germany for welcoming the Detainees, and grateful I was able to get the printer up and running.
