Surgery day! We had to be in Wichita at 6:30 this morning which meant getting up at 4:00 and leaving the house by 5:00. My admitting nurse was fun but she had trouble getting my IV started. She tried twice – once in each hand and than called another nurse to try. That nurse tried in my arm and failed. The fourth poke and third nurse was successful. Ouch! All four pokes left big bruises.
Surgery went well according to what the surgeon told Jim. Afterwards I had the shakes. They gave me two doses of some narcotic and wrapped me in the wonderful heated blankets and I finally quit shaking. After I quit they made me eat three bites of applesauce and gave me a pain pill. I was than able to get dressed and we headed for home around 10:00.
We dropped the prescription off at the pharmacy on the way home. I went to bed and Jim drove back into Emporia to pick up the pain pills after they text me to let me know they were ready to be picked up.
Took a nap of sorts this afternoon. I kinda fade in and out. Just now took a pain pill. They had told me my foot would start waking up about an hour after surgery but it has just now started to tingle. Decided to take a pain pill before I really really needed one. I don’t like how they make me feel.
Fixed a small bowl of oatmeal to eat as I am to eat something when I take the pain pills. Managed to get about a third of it down. I have trouble eating after surgery for a day or two.
Jim is outside sanding the deck stairs. I sat outside for a bit to get some fresh air. The wind is starting to come up and the temperature is starting to drop. It is going to get cold overnight and stay cold tomorrow before it starts to warm back up again.
Grateful the surgery is over and all is well, grateful day one is almost over, and grateful for Jim’s care and compassion.
