Had to get up at 4:00 this morning so we could be on the road by 4:30. Arrived at the surgery center at 5:50. They took me back to the room and got me prepped and ready for surgery. I think it was around 7:00 when they wheeled me back to the OR. They gave me some happy juice and I don’t remember leaving the prep room.
By 8:00 I was done and Jim was back with me. I had the shakes after surgery. That has happened to me before. Reminded me of drinking San Juan medicine in Peru. They finally gave me enough stuff to get the shakes under control and by 9:30 we were out the door and headed home.
Stopped by the pharmacy in Emporia to get my pain pills. It was going to take them 45 minutes of fill the prescription so Jim took me home and went back into town to pick it up later.
The pain has been rather minimal so far. I refused the complete block as the anesthesia doctor said it was optional and said she could do it in recovery if my pain was high. It wasn’t so it wasn’t given to me. The surgeon numbed the area and he said it would last about eight hours. I still can’t feel my toes that are peeking out from the dressing. The only pain I have is if I wiggle my toes.
Anticipating that tomorrow and Friday may be a bit rougher but so far so good. I have kept it elevated and an ice pack on it most of the afternoon. We both took a long nap this afternoon to make up for the short amount we got last night. Trusting the pain pills will not wire me too much and I will be able to sleep tonight.
I ate a bit of dinner tonight. Had to eat a cracker and some applesauce before they would let me leave this morning. I tend to not be hungry after a procedure and honored that most of the day. I have been drinking lots to try to wash the drugs out of my system.
The knee scooter is working well. I managed to get up the steps to come into the house using the crutches when I got home. I try to remember to get up and scoot around a bit every 30 minutes or so if I am not trying to sleep.
This process will be another good test of my patience. It is hard to sit and not do anything. Maybe tomorrow I will do some embroidery or knitting while I am sitting.
Jim is taking good care of me. I appreciate him being here and so willing to do whatever needs done.
Grateful surgery is over and all is well, grateful for my knee scooter, and grateful for all the expressions of love my friends and family have been sharing with me.
