What a day!  This day has had some unexpected happenings to make my birthday one to remember.

We got up early to get everything packed so we could be on the road by 9:15 to head to Wichita and my doctor’s appointment.  My guest left before 7:00 this morning and I needed to get his bedroom and bathroom cleaned so it would be ready for my house sitter.  My washing machine broke yesterday but luckily I had an extra set of sheets which fits the guest bed.

We managed to leave my house on time and arrived at the surgeon’s office a bit early.  The nurse removed my dressing and gave me wet wipes so I could clean my foot up some.  My foot is a variety of colors ranging from a deep purple to a ghoulish yellow.  It felt good to be able to clean between my toes.

The PA came in and removed the stitches and little bandages.  It is healing nicely.  She sent me for X-rays which confirmed that everything is healing great.  My boot has not been holding air and I asked them to check it.  The PA said they would replace it but the physical therapist guy didn’t seem to believe me that it was leaking.  After messing with it for about 15 minutes he finally put a new one on me although I could tell he wasn’t very happy about it.

I am now able to walk with only one crutch and can do partial weight bearing.  I can even take the boot off at night but I am not to put weight on my foot with the boot off.  I am managing to walk although uneven surfaces cause me issues and my foot is sore tonight.  I haven’t taken the boot off yet but it feels like it is swollen again.  I will try to stay off of it the rest of the evening and see if that helps.

I had to check-out and get instructions to take to a physical therapist for therapy they suggested I have.  I only have to go twice a week for two weeks.  The lady at the desk was overwhelmed and was helping another patient.  That took about 20 minutes.  She finally got to me and then struggled to be able to print the therapy instructions.  It was a bit frustrating.  The whole visit today seemed a step or two out of balance for some reason.

We finally got out of there around noon and headed to OK.  Jim had gone out to the car to get my crutches and when he was reaching into the car to get them misjudged the distance and jammed his fist.  It started swelling up on the drive home and was causing him lots of pain.  When we got home he called his doctor and was sent to urgent care for an X-ray.  Luckily he didn’t break anything but it is swollen and sore. They put a temporary splint on it that he is to wear for two or three days to help relieve the pain.

We went out for dinner.  Jim wasn’t able to eat much as he is tired and in pain.  He came home and is taking a short nap as he has choir practice to go to yet tonight.  I am going to stay here and prop my foot up and ice it and rest.  We are both tired tonight.

I appreciated all the phone calls, texts, emails and Facebook birthday wishes.  It has been a nice day outside of the injury to Jim’s hand.

OK is hot!  It was over 100 here today.  Strong City got another surprise thunderstorm last night.  The wind was rocking and rolling for a bit again last night.  I certainly welcomed the rain.

Grateful for a foot that is healing nicely, grateful for partial weight bearing and grateful Jim’s hand wasn’t broken.
