Woke up early this morning as I went to bed early last night. Went to the new house to make sure the electricians could get in. As I expected the handyman had locked up the house last night. The electricians weren’t there so I called them. They told me they still have about six hours of work to do and they are booked the rest of this week so won’t be back until at least sometime next week – maybe. Dang it. One of the jobs they need to do is remove some electrical conduit in a bedroom so we can repair the ceiling and walls and then paint. Guess that will be the last room that gets done. I have plenty of other painting that can be done before they get back.

Jim took off for Stillwater around noon. He is staying overnight tonight and maybe Thursday night depending on how much work he gets done.

My friend got delayed leaving Manhattan but will be on her way soon. It will be good to have company while Jim is gone. I forget each time how quiet the house is when I am here alone.

A friend came over to get some eggs today. Two dozen will come in today and two dozen went out. At least I am staying even. I still have seven dozen on hand if anyone needs some.

I need to remember to do afternoon chicken chores while Jim is gone. He loves tending to the chickens and usually takes care of afternoon chores.

The grass in the yard is almost tall enough to need mowed again. It is still pretty spotty but starting to fill in. If we get rain as forecast later this week and then if it warms up it will really start growing. There is a haze in the air that needs cleared out with a good rain. We could see prairie fires all around us last night again and can I tell ranchers are burning today. I will be glad when burning season is over and the air is fresh again.

Jim helped me bake Snickerdoodle cookies last night. He likes to roll them in the cinnamon sugar mixture and put them on the baking pans. I made a triple batch last night so maybe they will last him more than a week or two this time.

I am making a meat loaf for dinner. I love meat loaf and Jim is not so fond of the way I like to make it. If I remember correctly, my friend likes it too so we will enjoy it for dinner tonight along with baked sweet potatoes and another veggie.

Tomorrow I need to go to Emporia for a blood draw and to pick up a prescription. I have a few groceries on my list but nothing urgent so may not bother getting those. My friend had an errand she wanted to do while we are in Emporia so will help her take care of that. I need to look for some tile for a backsplash so my handyman can get that up. I need to figure out how much tile I will need. I also need some smoke detectors as the house doesn’t have any.

It is a beautiful day on the prairie. A touch windy so it feels cooler than it is. It isn’t going to warm up for a week or so and we have a good chance of rain starting tomorrow night. It will be a good weekend for painting inside.

Jim is starting to talk about taking a trip in May. It makes me nervous to think about it. Not sure why – I used to enjoy traveling. I’m sure once we hit the road I would enjoy it but the thought about leaving is unsettling. Maybe this time at home for over a year has changed my wanderlust ways. It will be interesting to see what other things I discover about myself that have changed during this isolation time. I have really enjoyed the isolation and distance from others. I will have to push myself out of my safety bubble to allow myself to rejoin the world. Baby steps!

Grateful for what work the electricians got done, grateful my friend is coming to visit, and grateful for the possibilities of travel in the future.
