Last night I had trouble falling asleep. Around midnight I heard Kathy going to the bathroom. I decided to get up and go chase the northern lights. Kathy was having trouble sleeping and decided to join me. I put on some sweat pants under my PJ’s and off we went.

I drove us out to the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve. The night sky was absolutely breathtaking. The Milky Way was on full display. I got a picture of the northern lights but not a very good one. I think we were about an hour too late as they had been more visible earlier. However, the night sky was worth the drive by itself.

We only stayed for about 15 – 20 minutes and then came home. Both of us were able to go to sleep after we got home. Maybe we both needed a taste of the outdoors under the stars. I miss that view!

This morning the sidewalk guys showed up early and did some fill in work around what they poured yesterday. We had a short rain storm come through so the pouring of the cement got delayed a bit. They were able to get it poured later this morning. They need to come back and finish filling in around what they poured today and then they will be done.

I had a pile of branches, etc. in the yard and they offered to haul them off for me. I took them up on the offer. We were going to burn it but it seemed simpler to let them make it go away.

A neighbor next door hired them to make a big pile of rocks he had in his yard go away.

I went out to a friend’s house this morning and helped packed some books. Not sure I was much help but I enjoyed the conversation. Afterwards we went to lunch at the Grand. That is always a nice treat to have lunch with a dear friend.

We got the dogs out to their pen this morning before the cement got poured. We can walk on our sidewalks later today so will be able to bring the dogs back in later today. This morning Kathy took Roxy for a walk and I took Sophia. It was not too hot when I was out walking then. It is starting to warm back up again this afternoon though.

Tomorrow I have to go to town for exercise at 2:00. My times got adjusted as my trainer is on vacation the rest of this week. I hope I remember not to go at noon which is my normal time. I told my friend I would stop at McDonald’s and get a bunch of fry boxes for her while I was in town. They make the best packing boxes and are free.

Haven’t heard from the meat locker yet so my beef must not be processed yet. They said they were gong to cut it this week so will wait till I hear from them to go get it. I have to go to town Thursday and Friday too so can get it whenever they call.

I’m going to a retreat in Sedona in the middle of December. I kinda want to make a road trip out of it but am a bit unsure about what weather I might encounter. It might be best to not risk it and fly. I love New Mexico and want to go visit there again. Maybe I should do that in September and then fly to the retreat.

It is nice to have the sidewalk project all but finished. Trusting the tree guy will get over here soon and finish up that project too. Slowly but surely this place is getting into shape. I am on a list to have my front porch rebuilt and I might have a privacy fence put in this year but other than that I don’t have any other projects planned. Next year I may have a garage built but I want to make sure I am going to stay here before I invest in a garage.

Haven’t heard anything about the sell of the rental property. We are to close August 9 so only have a little over a week before that date. Not sure if the inspections have been completed or not. No news is good news, I guess.

Once it cools down a bit, I have some yard work that will need to be done. I have lots of bare spots in the yard now that I need to figure out how to cover. The whole yard needs lots of work as it has lots of weeds in it. I need to spend a couple days just picking up little broken pieces of glass, nails, etc. out of the yard. Wish I was a landscaper and knew what to plant where.

Slowly but surely this place is getting put in better shape. I’m still very grateful I moved here and am enjoying having less to tend to.

Grateful to have gotten to spend some time with a dear friend today, grateful the sidewalk is all but done, and grateful for the rain we received this morning.
