Not a good night to find sleep. I got a couple hours here and there and finally gave up. I had something on my mind I needed to get taken care of. Once I did that I was able to get another hour of sleep. I took a short nap this afternoon. I was sleeping good until a phone call came in. Maybe tonight will be the night that I can sleep again.
Yesterday I had called my on-line bank to break a CD to pay for the new investment property. The lady had told me the funds would be in my account within 15 minutes. They never showed up. I got a confirmation from the bank informing me they had received the instructions for the account upon maturity of the CD which is in May.
I called the bank early this morning and found out somewhere along the line the lady had hit the wrong button and the promised transaction had not happened. The second lady I spoke with took care of it and stayed on the line until the funds were in my account. I was then able to order the wire transfer that should happen yet today and open a new CD minus the funds for the investment property. Good to have that all taken care of.
I arranged for house insurance for the property effective tomorrow. The rate is a bit higher than I expected but I accepted her quote. I will take some time later and shop for something cheaper. I only need it insured for the value I have invested plus enough to clean the lot up if something were to happen.
I need to call to get an inspection of the furnace and electrical system for the new property. Chase County doesn’t have any building codes so no inspections are ever done when properties are modeled. I want to make sure we don’t have any issues with electricity or the furnace.
I also need to call two more utility companies and get service established. I hate talking on the phone but it needs to get done. Hopefully that process will go smoothly. I went on-line to do the electricity and can’t get into my account. I will need to meet the password. I hate passwords and that whole process. Not sure what went wrong as I wrote down what I had entered.
We will have to go into Cottonwood Falls tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 for the closing. I think I have all the paperwork ready and the money to pay for it should have arrived by then. I am used to having my business partner handle these things for me. This one has felt a bit more complicated since we aren’t using a real estate agent to handle the details. It seems to have gotten all sorted out though.
I got a phone call this morning to schedule my second vaccine. Jim had gotten an email yesterday for his. They were able to get me an appointment at the same time as his – 5:05 PM on Friday, February 19. It will be good to get that second shot over with. Michelle had her second shot yesterday and is feeling really crappy today with a very sore arm, fever and severe headache. Trust both Jim and I can skate through our second shot without too many side effects.
The girls gave me 19 eggs this morning. There were two broken eggs in the nesting boxes. Not sure if the eggs froze and broke open or if the girls broke them open. I have been giving the dogs a couple eggs a day as I keep finding eggs with cracks in them from freezing a bit in the coop. The dogs enjoy the raw eggs and they are good for them. I have plenty of eggs that I can spare a couple eggs a day right now. I think I have 7 dozen in the refrigerator right now and another dozen in the basket on the counter.
We are having leftovers for dinner tonight so dinner will be easy. We have an assortment of food in the refrigerator that needs eaten up so it will be a bit of this and a bit of that. I need to make more room in the refrigerator for eggs.
This cold weather is crazy cold. We haven’t had a cold snap that lasted this long for many years. No relief in site for at least the next ten days. Spring will feel so good when it finally comes this year. We probably have four inches of snow on the ground. Things are frozen pretty solid now. I had a bit of trouble getting the door to the chicken coop open this morning as there was ice on the handle. The new water heater pan is helping keep the coop warmer than the other heated watering container. The chickens look like they are surviving OK in the cold. They are a bit crowded but that helps keep them warmer.
I have some house cleaning I need to do this afternoon. It has been a bit since I cleaned some of the rooms. I need to take advantage of the fact that there is no dust blowing in right now. Maybe things will stay clean for a bit longer.
Grateful for a warm house today, grateful I got the bank problem sorted out, and grateful for leftovers that will make for an easy dinner.
