Finally got a quiet day at home. No emergencies so far today. I did leave the house to take the recycling to Cottonwood Falls to dump it. Other than that, I have stayed home and enjoyed the quiet.
I had the house to myself all morning. That hadn’t happened for a bit. I fell asleep in my chair this morning. I had woken up at 3:30 and couldn’t go back to sleep so I needed a bit more sleep.
I took the day off from dealing with the hail damage stuff. Although i did call my realtor business partner and asked him about changing the siding on the house and the windows. He gave me some considerations I hadn’t thought about. This will not be an easy decision to decide what to do. I still don’t have enough information to make a decision yet so will give it some more time.
Tomorrow I have two window people cmowing to give me bids on replacing the windows. One is Pella which is where the original windows came from. The other is a local guy that sells other window brands. I really need to keep all the windows the same so not sure where this will go. I haven’t been pleased with the Pella windows. Some have failed and I have already replaced a couple. Not sure it is worth the extra money to put them back in. I probably can replace every window in the house with a cheaper brand with the money I will get from insurance as they will pay the full replacement value on the 20 doors and windows that they are paying for.
I also have two metal siding guys coming this week to give me estimates on changing out the Efis. However after talking to my business partner, I’m not sure a metal siding is the way to go. He is concerned about resale value and changing the look of this custom built house.
I haven’t heard from the Efis guy or the insurance adjuster. I will give them to the end of the week and then I will bug them both. I hate to be a pest but I also know they respond to a squeaky wheel and can ignore others.
I am fixing Tagen sloppy joes and macaroni and cheese for dinner. Michelle is helping make snack sacks for the football players when she gets off work and she will be late getting home. Tagen hasn’t been getting home until 6:30 or 7:00. He is hot and tired when he gets here. They are practicing inside this week due to the heat but he said it is still hot as they practice in full pads.
The chickens seem to be surviving the heat so far. I let the hose run for about five minutes while I gather eggs and give them fresh water. The hose water creates some swimming holes for them to play in and cool off. They love to drink the dirty water from the puddles. They gave me 19 eggs today which is amazing considering the heat.
Kathy’s cat disappeared for the longest time today. Kathy looked all over outside and we both looked inside. I went to my bedroom closet to get something and found Louis. Kathy was very relieved he was found. She was worried he had escaped outside and was in the heat of the day outside.
It reached over 100 again today. It is to hit over 100 everyday this week. We will get a bit of a break Sunday and next week is to be in the high 80’s or low 90’s. This heat is wearing us all out.
I need to go to Walmart and pick up a prescription. I may run in this afternoon as I have contractors coming the next two days.
Tomorrow night I am meeting some friends at Union Social for dinner to celebrate my birthday. Kathy and Candace put this little gathering together. It will be a treat to have some time with my best friends. Yesterday was a bit chaotic and didn’t feel like much of a day to celebrate.
I really need to start putting together a packing list for my trip to Europe. I leave two weeks from Thursday. I need to get some new pants and skirts to take so may need to take a day and go to KC shopping. I want some pants that wash and dry easily. I will be gone for three weeks and am only taking a carry-on bag so will be washing things out. The pants I have now take too long to dry. I will be staying more than one night at several hotels so can send clothes to be laundered at those hotels. It gets expensive though so like having the options of washing them out myself. I did that on the Camino and got along fine.
I’m surprised I have stayed about the neutral level of consciousness this last week. I have slipped below a few times but have managed to climb right back up. I don’t like unfinished projects and this hail damage project will be an unfinished project for months to come. It feels like it has a lot of moving parts and I am a pawn in the game. Waiting on others to do something is not my strength. I would rather just do it myself and I can’t in this project. A huge life lesson for me!
Grateful for a quiet morning alone at home, grateful for more sleep this morning and grateful the chickens are still alive.
