I feel like I have gone in circles today. I made two trips to El Dorado. The first one to drop Ellexia off so she could spend the day back-to-school shopping with Papa Craig and Nancy. The other one to pick her up from her shopping day.
In between trips the insurance adjuster came. He totaled the roof and the west and north side of the Efis siding. The guttering around the whole house needs replaced and the deck and swing set need repainted.
It took me six months to get one little piece of guttering fixed. Wonder how long it will take to get the whole house guttering replaced? I spent all spring painting the deck and now it needs redone. Feeling a bit overwhelmed and frustrated.
He asked me to call the solar panel guys and have them come inspect the solar panels to make sure no damage was done to them. The guy that came today didn’t have a tall enough ladder to get up there and inspect it himself.
The adjuster will send me a written report with his estimates. He isn’t going to estimate the cost of the Efis repair though. I told him I could only find one supplier and he said they would pay what ever the guy charges.
I have to get two estimates for the roof repair and then compare them to what the insurance company is willing to pay. If both of my bids are higher than they estimate, they will adjust to the higher price.
I am a bit overwhelmed with all of this. I hate dealing with contractors and getting bids and then playing the waiting game until they show up and do the work. This project may take months to finalize if my experience with the guttering guy earlier this year is an indication of how the contractors may perform.
I am so grateful I found an Efis supplier. I have been looking for months and hadn’t had any luck. When I googled it yesterday a contractor from Wichita popped up. They actually don’t do Efis work but knew of someone that does. The guy sounds promising and said he could get me fixed up. We shall see…….
I have calls into two different roofing companies and I called the solar panel place to get those two things started. I had called the Efis guy yesterday and he is to get back with me later this week. I will wait for the estimate from the insurance adjuster to proceed with the guttering and painting of the deck. My priority will be to get the Efis and roof repaired and then go from there.
I may need to make some major decisions about the Efis repair. It might be cheaper to do a different siding on the house. Efis is incredibly expensive to repair. I’m concerned with insurance only covering half of the house that there will be a major cosmetic difference in how the front of the house looks via the north and west side.
The roof was replaced in 2015 when there was a little tornado that came through and ripped off many of the shingles. It is a major pain to live through the noise and mess of having the roof replaced. I will have to price a metal roof and see what the difference will be.
Ellexia was excited to get home and try on all her new clothes. She gave me the thumbs up when she modeled them so I think she was pleased with what she got. She said she felt ready to go to school now.
Tomorrow is a late start day for the middle school so I will take her to school. That will try my patience as the line to drop the kiddos off is slow and long.
Tagen is spending the night at his dad’s house tonight so he won’t be home after football practice. I did the chicken chores yesterday and today for him. I don’t think he even thought about them when he got home last night. He had a very long day yesterday and was tired when he got home.
The first couple of weeks of school is an adjustment for all. The kiddos aren’t used to getting up early and having to focus all day long. We still have to figure out the transportation issue. Ellexia wants to take her lunch so I will get to fix and pack her lunch every morning. I had forgotten about all those little things that a new school year brings.
I still need to get my house cleaning project started. With all the phone calls, talking to the insurance adjuster and driving over 200 miles today I haven’t got my things done. There is still time before Saturday – right?
Tomorrow I need to get my grocery order organized and placed so I can pick it up Thursday. I will spend part of the day in the kitchen fixing things Friday. I am having the meat catered so won’t have to mess with that.
It sounds like I won’t have a big crowd come for dinner on Saturday. Both of my aunts have decided not to come due to the heat and mobility issues. Not sure many of their families will come. I’m sure I ordered too much meat but it will freeze and get eaten at a later date.
Sunday I reserved a UHaul truck so we can get the last of Michelle’s things from her house. She closes later in that week and is on the clock to get things done. Her two siblings have agreed to help her move the rest of the stuff Sunday. A UHaul truck will make it much easier than loading things in a pickup. It will be good to have all her stuff here and her house emptied of her things.
Next Monday I turn 70. How in the world did I get to be that old? 70 sounds old to me and I don’t feel old. Time sure seems to pass quickly these days. I will blink and I will be 80!
Grateful for house insurance, grateful for contractors that know how to do things I don’t know how to do, and grateful Ellexia starts 8th grade tomorrow.
