Another beautiful day hiking in the mountains. We drove up to Bear Lake and found a parking spot. That is hard to do some days. We walked around Bear Lake and then hiked up to Alberta Falls. They are beautiful. I could sit beside them for hours and listen to the waterfalls.

We hiked back to Glacier bus stop. Jim raced ahead of us and got the car at Bear Lake and drove down to pick us up. That kept me from having to hike 1 mile uphill. Bless his heart.

Then we drove to Moraine Park and went back to the place where I could put my feet in the very cold Thompson River. It was a cooling and relaxing way to end our day. We drove back to our cabin and have been relaxing.

I fixed sausage burritos for breakfast this morning. I had some time after I finished preparing breakfast and before our park pass time so went and did our laundry. While I was waiting for the laundry I folded kitchen towels, wash cloths and hot pads. Made the hour plus time that I was there go by quickly.

I stopped and got a bag of ice at the store in the Admin Building on my way home. I was going to pay cash but they have stopped taking cash as a COVID precaution. But the lady waiting on me didn’t have a mask on. She said they hadn’t mandated them yet and besides that she didn’t think they did any good. I trust she stays well in this time of increasing Delta cases.

Thomas and Judy are fixing dinner tonight. That will be a nice treat. Tomorrow we are all doing different things so breakfast will be eat what ever you can find. I am going to put some chicken in the crock pot in the morning before we leave and then roast some veggies when we get back and call it dinner. That will be easy. Thursday night we are having tacos and then we leave Friday morning. Thomas is going to an Airbnb in Denver for a week so he is going to take the leftovers with him. That will be nice and feel like we wasted less food.

I got an 11:00 Trail Ridge Road Pass for tomorrow. We are going to sleep in a bit and then drive up Trail Ridge Road. Jim wants to hike on the tundra some more. I think it will be David, Jim and I going up as Thomas and Judy have some things they need to do tomorrow. I haven’t heard what we are doing on Thursday yet. It is to rain on Thursday so we might just take a quiet day in the cabin and start the packing process.

It is easier to pack to go home then it is to come out here. We just have to grab anything that is ours and put it in boxes and load them up. It won’t take long and we may wait to do it Friday morning. If it doesn’t rain we will probably take one more hike somewhere. We haven’t hiked much on campus this year so may do that and not spend the day in the car.

As I expected the time this week is going by quickly. I think we are both ready to go home though and look forward to seeing the dogs, cats and chickens and sitting in the quiet of our little house on the prairie. I miss seeing wide open spaces. I get a bit claustrophobic in the mountains at times.

Next week I am going to KC on Tuesday and staying until Wednesday evening or Thursday to help Nicole. She is having one of her feet operated on Tuesday morning. Her husband has to work and we didn’t want to leave her home alone. They have a puppy that needs to be let out often and not sure she can manage it with a sore foot for the first couple of days. The puppy isn’t fully leash trained and might trip her up.

We don’t have much else on our calendar when we get home. With the virus going the way it is we won’t be adding much either. Time to tuck back in and stay safe.

Grateful for the beauty of waterfalls, grateful for cold mountain rivers, and grateful for this time away from home with Jim and his sons.
