I went to Topeka today to go see my Gastroenterologist. She listens well and makes recommendations that are reasonable. She right away offered to do a Colonoscopy to check to see if there is something else going on. However, we talked some more and both of us decided to hold off for a bit.
She thinks I have developed a gluten intolerance and a lactose intolerance due to not having a thyroid. It can cause the symptoms I have been having. Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done except for life style change. Fortunately I have already made that life style change for the most part by not eating flour or sugar. I need to add grains and dairy to the list of foods to avoid. I have been cheating a bit lately and eating food with flour and my body is saying not your food any more. I had rice for lunch and immediately bloated up and started cramping.
She had thyroid cancer and had her thyroid removed too. She have the same Endocrinologist. It is nice to have someone that understands all the issues I have had since I had my thyroid removed.
If my symptoms continue or get worse all I have to do is call her and she will schedule the colonoscopy for me. If I have IBS there is not much that can be done for it. She did mention another thing that might be going on. It is Microscopic Colitis which can be treated. However, she said my symptoms aren’t completely consistent with that diagnosis.
She gave me the name of a probiotic that she wants me to try. It is expensive – $121 for a two month supply but she said it was worth trying. I will get some ordered and see what happens.
I got to Topeka early so stopped at a Party City and got some napkins for Jason’s wedding party. Then I went to Chipotle and had lunch. I next went to Dillard’s at the mall to look for a dress to wear to Jason’s wedding. I found two. One was on sale so I got both. One is long sleeved and the other short sleeve so the weather will dictate which one I will wear. Both are fancy but not so fancy I can’t wear them most any place I might wear a dress too. I haven’t had a dress on since Nicole’s wedding a year ago June so not sure when I might wear a dress again but nice to have one on hand in case I decide to dress up sometime.
While I was walking out of Dillard’s I spotted a purse that I fell in love with. It is the perfect size and my phone fits in it nicely. My other purse is several years old and the strap is broken and held together with a clip. I splurged and purchased a new purse. I spent more on myself today than I have for two years!
The store was almost empty of customers which was nice. I was afraid I would get inside and not be able to handle being around people. I had the whole dress section to myself except for one clerk. I took my time and found the two dresses. They both fit in the size I picked out. That was easy!
After the doctor’s appointment I drove home. Traffic was light and it was a fast and easy drive home. I used to go to Topeka at least once a week but hadn’t been for a while. I still find Topeka much easier to get around than Wichita. Wish Topeka had a Costco – I have to go to KC or Wichita for that.
I haven’t gotten much done at home this afternoon but decided not to do anything. I am tired. I woke up at 6:30 this morning and couldn’t go back to sleep. I’m tired and needed some down time to recover from being in the city today. Maybe tomorrow I will get the rest of the basement cleaned – or not.
Remembered to make an appointment to get the oil in my car changed. I also called and scheduled a haircut for next week. I kept forgetting to write those two things on my to do list and kept forgetting to get them scheduled. Nice to have them on the calendar for next week.
Jim will be home tomorrow evening. He is having some work done on his bathroom in Stillwater and won’t be able to leave until the guys finish up tomorrow afternoon. It will be good to have him home again.
We don’t have any plans for the weekend. Jason and Melissa may try to come out Sunday so we can finalize wedding plans. Both of them have been sick and they may not be able to come. We still have two weeks to decide what the plan is so no worries if it has to wait another week. They are trying to keep the wedding simple and easy and as stress free as possible. I’m all for that!
Grateful for a doctor that listens and hears all that I have to say, grateful to have found a dress to wear to the wedding, and grateful for a new purse.
