It has been a busy day. I was at the new investment property at 8:30 this morning. The roofers were already there and hard at work. They got over half the roofing project completed today. They will be back in the morning to finish the job. Not sure I like the color of the tile but am hoping when they get all done it will be OK.
The furnace guy came a little after 9:00. He got the furnace cleaned up and said it was in good shape. He showed me where the filter was and how to change it.
The electrician came while the furnace guy was still there. He found lots of things that need to be fixed. We walked through the house and he made a long list of things to do. He is going to send me a bid and then will schedule a day to come do the work if I accept his bid. I will need to pick up two ceiling fans with light fixtures to have ready for when he comes back so he can get them installed.
After picking up the yard for a bit and putting more stuff in the dumpster I came home. Jim had his class this afternoon at 1:00. I sat in the office during his call in case he ran into technical issues. He figured it out most of the time by himself.
When his class was over I took a two-hour nap. I didn’t sleep well again last night and was able to get some good sleep this afternoon. I grilled hamburgers for dinner tonight. I had quickly laid some hamburger out this morning before I went to town and couldn’t think of anything else to do with it. Grilled hamburgers and quick and easy.
I handled five calls last night on the hot line. One I had to get the supervisor involved but was able to talk the texter down and felt they would be safe the rest of the night. I have another shift tonight. I am 15 calls away from leveling up to Level 7. I have handled almost 500 callers since I started taking calls in May. Feeling much more comfortable with most callers now. I still get an occasional one that I struggle finding words for them that might help. Some situations are so big and hard that what ever I say feels like it couldn’t possibly be enough to do any good. I’m humbled everyday on the hot line by the resiliency of the human spirit and how important having someone listen to your story is.
Tomorrow will hopefully be a quieter day. We will probably go in the afternoon and do some more clean-up work in town unless it rains. It is surprising how much better the place is looking already and we really haven’t given it a lot of time and effort yet. I need to do some clean-up at this house soon. The dirt is exceeding my comfort level and needs to be cleaned up soon.
I am selling a grain bin located on the new property. People have been bidding on it. I’m closing it out at 8:00 tonight. Trusting the high bidder will come through with the money and will be take it away sooner rather than later.
Some of the kids are coming Sunday to help with the cleanup. I need to do some cooking Saturday so I can feed them when we are done Sunday with our work. That will be fun to spend time with them. I have missed that more than anything this past year.
So far the new investment property renovations have gone very smoothly. That tells me it was the right property to invest in. I’m sure we will hit some snags at some point but so far so good. Slow and steady progress is nice.
Grateful for trades people that know their business and practice their skills, grateful the grain bin will be sold by night’s end, and grateful for a quiet day ahead tomorrow.
