As expected, today has been a rest and recovery day. I took a good nap early afternoon. I went to bed early last night, woke up in the middle of the night and was up for two hours and then had a second sleep. I got up at 7:00 this morning as I couldn’t sleep any more.
I am working on cleaning out my pantry. I have filled one trash bag so far, have a big pile of things to donate, and still have some shelves to work on. It will be good to have it cleaned out. It tends to become a catch-all place and most of what it catches we don’t use/need.
Got a call from my old internet company today. They are going to waive the early termination fee and stand by what their technician had told me. I appreciate that. They owe me a refund and will issue a check sometime soon.
It is another hot day on the prairie. Temperatures have been close to 100 and with the heat index, over 100. Too hot for me to be outside today.
I have a chicken that has lost her comb. It came off about two months ago and had healed over. Yesterday I noticed it was bleeding again. Not sure she will survive the winter without it but we will see what happens. Not sure what caused her to lose it. The other chickens tend to pick on her and they may have injured it when they did so. She now hangs out in the nesting boxes to stay away from the others. Guess their are bullies in all species.
It won’t be long before the girls start molting and quit laying for a bit. They usually molt around Fall Equinox and then slowly start laying again after Winter Solstice. If it is really cold around Solstice they delay starting to lay again until we get a bit of a warm spell. Their egg production has really slowed down already. Part of that is due to the heat and the rest is due to their internal preparation for molting. I sent my egg customers a note to let them know my days of supplying their egg needs are limited.
Tomorrow Jim has a doctor’s appointment at 9:00. That will be an early start to the day for him. I am going to continue deep cleaning the house. I’m picking one area a day to clean and work my way through the house. My deadline is Jason’s wedding on September 25. If I start now, I can do this.
We are having grilled chicken tonight. Too hot to cook inside so I will grill it outside. The front porch is in the shade in the afternoon and evenings so it won’t be too hot to be out cooking. Not sure what I will fix to go with it but I will figure something out.
No plans for the weekend or into next week for that matter. Jim might go to Stillwater early next week unless he changes his mind again. He has trouble leaving. He hasn’t been down there for a long time and really needs to go check on some things. He hired someone to help him remodel his bathroom and he needs to go pick out somethings so that job can get finished.
Feeling more grounded today. I am a bit lost as to what to do with myself though. I don’t have any projects going right now, other than cleaning the house. It will be good for me to have lots of empty space. It seems like we have been on a bit of a roller coaster lately and it is time to slow things way down. With the virus the way it is, it is time for me to tuck back in and stay home most of the time.
I look forward to getting my booster shot. Hopefully the health department will contact us soon and get that scheduled. I haven’t heard if they have made a plan on how they will proceed – they might not have one yet. We got our second shot the end of February so should be among the first to get our booster. We will see what happens.
Grateful for a rest and recovery day, grateful to be getting the pantry cleaned out, and grateful the internet company resolved the termination fee.
