This day hasn’t gone as planned or hoped but it has turned out to be a good one. The weather didn’t cooperate with our plans to go into the park this morning. It looked cloudy and rainy and not a good day to hike up high. Thunderstorms with lightening can move in fast here and Jim is very cautious about taking me hiking when that may happen.
Jim and I decided to drive to Boulder and spend the day. We needed to get away a bit and we both enjoy the drive to Boulder. We ended up having lunch at 5 Guys and sat outside to enjoy it. We were just about finished eating when it decided to rain so we rushed to our car for cover and then drove back to Estes Park.
We stopped in Estes Park at the Safeway gas station to use the points we had saved up while we were here to get $0.40 a gallon off our gas. Filled up and then came back to the cabin. I packed two boxes of kitchen stuff and then laid down and took a nap.
I am fixing tacos for dinner so that won’t take long to fix when it is time to do so. We have spent the rest of the afternoon reading, knitting and mentally preparing ourselves to leave tomorrow morning.
We did stop by the Admin Building to check over our bill and see if they could get my credit card to work. Last year they couldn’t get it to work and it took 30 days to get the bill settled. I’m glad we stopped by as we found several errors on the bill. We got those fixed. We have to stop by tomorrow morning and return the WiFi booster thing we borrowed. I will pay the final bill then.
We will need to finish packing tonight and then do the last minute packing in the morning. It seems like packing up to go home is always easier than packing to come as we just have to grab what is ours and pack. It won’t take long to finish up.
I have been a bit disappointed again this year with the Y Camp. Every department seems to be running a step behind. Part of the problem is being short staffed but I’m not sure that is the whole reason behind it. Things have just felt a bit out of step with the staff. I understand how hard it is right now with the Pandemic and all to keep up with everything. I hope other guests haven’t noticed it as much as I did and that their future business isn’t effected by it. If Jim wasn’t as in love with this place as he is I would strongly consider not coming back again. He has been coming here since he was 5 and it is his second home.
It will be very good to head for home in the morning. We hope to be on our way before 10:00 but we will see what happens. It will be hard for Jim to say goodbye to his sons. With this new phase of the Pandemic it is hard to know when we might get to see them again.
The grandkids started school today. I am a bit nervous about seeing them as they are now being more exposed to the virus and there are so many in the community that have not been vaccinated. I truly hope their schools don’t experience a rash of cases but I fear that is what is going to happen. I will cross my fingers and hope for the best.
Saturday we will have to go to Emporia and get groceries. Monday we will go to Olpe and pick up our beef. Tuesday I am going to KC early in the morning so I can be with Nicole when she has her foot surgery. I am staying until at least Wednesday late afternoon and maybe until Thursday afternoon. After that I will tuck into my county home on the prairie and not get back out much until this latest wave of COVID cases has settled down again.
It has been a wonderful respite in the midst of the summer to come to the mountains. I am always amazed at how fast our little cabin feels like home. Life seems simple here. It has been a very relaxing time but I am ready to go home. Their simply is no place like home.
Grateful for the beauty of the drive to Boulder, grateful for this time away from home, and grateful to be going home tomorrow.
