We made it to Stillwater this evening around 7:30.  The day seemed to last a long time!  Why is the drive to some place so much faster than the drive home?  The weather was good although it kept getting hotter and hotter as we dropped altitude.

We did make a quick stop at Capulin Volcano National Monument and drove up the scenic drive.  We didn’t go on the hike into the volcano.  The view was incredible and one last chance to see the beautiful New Mexico landscape before we left.

We stopped in Guyman, OK for lunch mid-afternoon.  We ate at Pollo El Ranchero.  It was some of the best Mexican food I have had in a long time.  They make their own chips and salsa.  I highly recommend you stop there if you are ever out that way.

It took us a bit of time to get the car unloaded.  We took way too much stuff.  I do better on trips when I fly as I don’t have room to take everything but the kitchen sink.  We had to sort my stuff from his and than put all his stuff away.  The washing machine has been running non stop since we got here.  The cats were happy to see Jim and get outside.

We made a quick run to a grocery store and grabbed a quick bite to eat while we were out and about.  It rained a bit this evening and has rained again since we came back from the grocery store.  The rain is most appreciated as it has been very hot and dry here while we were gone.

We will hang around here tomorrow and than Jim will drive me to Strong City Tuesday afternoon.  It will be good to get home.  I’ve been gone for almost three weeks and had only been home for two days after my trip to Maine.  I will have two weeks to get my long to do list accomplished before I have foot surgery August 7.

We had a wonderful vacation.  It is hard for me to know what I enjoyed the most.  The train ride was incredible, wading in the creek at the Sand Dunes was so much fun, relaxing at Estes Park was much needed, seeing all the beautiful sites on our hikes was good for my soul, spending time with Jim’s brother and his family was delightful as was spending time with Jim’s sons.  I enjoyed seeing the elk, antelope and deer run free in the National Parks.

As good as it is to get away it will be nice to be home Tuesday.  There is no place like home!

Grateful for a safe journey, grateful for the rain the prairie received today, and grateful for another wonderful vacation.
