Today my buddy Tagen turns 14. He has a very big heart and a gentle spirit. He is several inches taller than I am now and still growing. It is a delight to watch him turn into a man.
Baked a double batch of oatmeal chocolate chip cookies for Jim this morning. He should have enough to take home with us Tuesday to get him through until we come back to KS in four weeks. I baked a double batch of no bake chocolate cookies to take in to Tagen. They are his favorite cookies.
Jim worked on his slide project most of the afternoon. He is organizing them before he starts the process of transferring them to a different media as a back-up. This project has been a trip down memory lane for him.
I attempted to transfer photos from my old laptop to my new computer but didn’t have any luck. When I am home next time I will schedule some time for my technical support person that does house calls to come out and do that for me.
Figured out the problem with the ice maker and water dispenser on the refrigerator is tied to the broken water softener. When the plumber shut off the water softener water supply it turned off the water supply to the filtration system which is where the refrigerator line gets its water. I sent a text to the plumber to see if he needs to run a new line and hook the refrigerator line into the main water supply. I’ll see what he has to say tomorrow.
We ran into Emporia this afternoon to deliver Tagen his cookies. Unfortunately Tagen was at his dad’s house so he won’t get the cooking until he comes back to his mother’s house on Wednesday. I was sorry not to see him on his birthday. Ellexia was fun to visit with for a bit. I had given her a cookbook for Christmas and she and her dad had made pancakes and chocolate chip cookies using recipes out of that book today.
Tomorrow I have an appointment at the local bridal shop to try on dresses. Not sure they will have what I am looking for but worth a shot to try. While I am in town I need to get some more dog food – that is the only critter feed I need. I also need to get some cash from an ATM to pay the house sitter and stop by the Vet office and get some flea and tic medication for the dogs and cats.
Tuesday I will get my new car tags and dump recycling before we head south. This visit home has been too short. It has felt good to be on the prairie and where it is quiet. I enjoyed the moon last night and the sunsets I have seen.
We plan on coming back to KS on February 13 and staying until Monday, February 17. Ellexia has a gymnastic meet that Saturday and I would love to watch her at least once this season. Monday the 17th is a holiday so we won’t be doing taxes. I may try to schedule an appointment with my accountant on the 14th so I can get those handed off. I will need to come back March 5 as I have a dental appointment that afternoon.
The wedding is only a little over two months away. Starting to feel a bit of pressure to get some things taken care of. The invitations should be in OK when we get back. I want to spend the next two weeks getting as many details taken care of as I can before I start doing taxes February 3. Time has a way of getting away from me. If I can find a dress tomorrow I will feel a bit better.
I have been able to stay on my eating plan the last two days. I sure feel better when I do that. Seems to be easier to do here than in OK – not sure why as I do the cooking both places. Haven’t been tempted to snack like I am in OK. Maybe because I can find more things to do here and I am not used to snacking in this house. Sure would like to take off the 15 pounds I have gained the last six months.
Grateful for a quiet day on the prairie, grateful for my grandchildren and the wonderful humans they are becoming, and grateful cookies were successfully made today.
