What a weekend. I didn’t have a chance to sit down and blog last night. It was a full day and then some.
I got up early Saturday morning to make deviled eggs and to finish cleaning the house. I got the dinner buffet line set up and drinks made.
Kathy went to town at 11:00 to pick up the meat from Bobby D’s. Michelle went to town in the morning for Tagen’s football scrimmage and brought home lots of ice for me.
Nicole and Geoff came around noon and we headed to Pioneer Bluffs. Michelle and Ellexia stayed home but the rest of us went.
My cousin Larry gave a wonderful talk about the Patton family history. Jason and Melissa met us there. It was a hot day to sit in the loft of a barn to listen to the family story but we were entranced with what we were hearing and didn’t notice the heat so much. It reached 114 yesterday. Hottest day I ever remember having in KS.
Came back to the house and finished the final preparations for dinner. Three of my cousins and three grandkids of theirs came to join us for dinner. I think there were 20 of us for dinner.
We sat around and visited and told family stories and ate. There was plenty of good food and wonderful company.
Most of them left around 5:30 or so. The kids and I watched the Chief pre-season game and hung around and visited.
Nicole and Geoff brought their camper so they spent the night in that as I was out of beds.
We got up early this morning and headed to Emporia to help Michelle make the final move out of her house. It took 30 minutes to rent the UHaul. I hadn’t anticipated it would take that long. We finally got through the process and Geoff drove the truck to Michelle’s house. Kathy, Jason, Melissa, Tagen, Nicole, Michelle, Geoff and I got her things loaded up.
While the kids were doing the heavy stuff, Kathy and I went to get some breakfast sandwiches and cold drinks. By the time we got back the truck was loaded. We came out to my house and unloaded the UHaul. We then put some things in the UHaul that Michelle wanted to donate to the Salvation Army.
Tagen and I followed Nicole and Geoff to town. We stopped and filled the UHaul with gas and then went to the Salvation Army and unloaded the donations and returned the UHaul.
Nicole and Geoff headed to KC and Tagen and I stopped and got some lunch and then came home.
I think it might be nap time. It was very hot moving stuff today. Grateful we got it done this morning and didn’t have to do it this afternoon. It is already 103 and it is just now noon.
I have a bit of work to do in the kitchen to get it restored back to normal from the dinner last night but it won’t take long. We have some leftover pulled pork for sandwiches tonight so I will call that dinner.
Phil is coming in the morning to start the Sheetrock repair in the basement ceiling. I forgot to have the kids help me measure the house for the Efis guy so will have Phil do that tomorrow when he comes.
Tomorrow I will need to get those measurements of the house sent to the Efis repair guy so he can work up an estimate for the insurance adjuster. I also need to call Pella Windows and have them give me an estimate to replace the 20 doors and windows. The local glass guy is coming Wednesday to give me an estimate. I also need to make sure Jim’s name was removed from the insurance policy so the insurance adjuster can start cutting me some checks.
Tagen’s car is done so will go get that picked up tomorrow. I will either take Tagen before he goes to school in the morning or Kathy and I will go get it later in the day. Tagen is excited to get his car back. I will then start the process to buy the pickup from him.
Hoping this week will slow down a bit. Last week felt like a train wreck with surprises and unexpected tasks almost every day. I am ready for a quiet week at home.
Tomorrow I turn 70. Nicole told me I will now be old enough that I don’t have to remove my shoes when I go through airport security. Gotta take the good things wherever you can find them – right?
Enjoying the quiet of the prairie today and the cool of the A/C. I think I will stay home the rest of the day and relax. I have taken three trips to town already today. That exceeds my patience level for the day!
It was a fun weekend with lots of family time. All three kids were here last night and I always appreciate those days. They all worked together this morning and helped Michelle get moved. What ever do you do if you don’t have family close?
Grateful for family memories and the creation of new family memories, grateful the move is done and grateful for a quiet afternoon at home.
