Had a bit of excitement on the deck last night.  The kiddos staying here for the weekend and went out and ran back in and told me there was a snake on the deck.  We went out and checked it out.  It was a four foot long bull snake.  They are harmless although this one was hissing at us.  Jim got a rake and the snake wrapped around it and he carried it out to the back pasture.  The front yard got mowed and baled and thinking the snake lost its hiding place in the yard.

The guests are having a good time.  They sat around the fire pit last night for a couple of hours and made s’mores and watched the stars come out.  They all slept in this morning.  The girls made French toast and scrambled eggs for breakfast for everyone.  They were fun to watch cook.  They are high school age although they both look younger to me.  This afternoon the whole family went to the Prairie Preserve and did the bus tour and then went into Emporia to the disc golf store.  This evening they are in Wichita so the girls can go to a concert and the guys are playing disc golf.

Tomorrow I have a physical in Emporia at 10:00 and then have some friends coming for dinner and a guest checking in tomorrow evening.  I will have three bedrooms to clean up tomorrow and a dinner to fix.  Thankfully nothing is on the calendar for Tuesday so I can rest.  Wednesday I go back to the surgeon for a follow up visit and then will go to Stillwater for two weeks.  I found a house sitter so things should be under control here.

My foot is still healing.  I took a pain pill last night as it was cranky yesterday.  It is still a bit swollen but better than it was.  The boot is big and heavy and it is hard to elevate my foot.  I am hoping Wednesday that the doctor will give me approval to start putting a bit of weight on my foot.  I think she said something about using a crutch and sharing the weight between the crutch and my foot.  I will get the stitches out which will allow me to not have to use the cast cover when I shower and bathe.

Had a strong thunderstorm come through overnight.  It lasted several hours which is a bit unusual.  I was grateful for the rain we got as I had huge cracks in my yard.  My rain gauge is down due to the deck project so don’t know how much rain I got.  Guessing over an inch and maybe closer to two.

Grateful for pain pills when I need them, grateful for a healing foot, and grateful for the rain the prairie received.
