It has been a quiet day on the prairie. We had a beautiful rain overnight and this morning. I am thinking we got around two inches all together – maybe a bit more. No water in the basement although I don’t know that we got enough rain to really test it. We did have standing water in the swell in the backyard which pleased Jim.
I made a big batch of Snickerdoodles this morning. We should have enough to keep Jim in cookies for a week or two. He does like cookies.
I put a whole chicken in the crock pot and let it cook all day. I love pulled chicken. Makes an easy dinner with lots of leftovers for lunches.
Tomorrow night some friends are coming over for dinner. I am fixing a pot roast with carrots and potatoes. She is bringing a salad. I have a dessert ready so it will be an easy meal to fix and serve. It will nice to have some conversation with friends. That is what I have missed the most through the pandemic. This couple have been extra cautious too so we feel safe having them over.
I went to Emporia this afternoon to pick up a few groceries. It was a quick trip to the grocery store and home again. I went to the small grocery store and stayed away from Walmart. I wasn’t in the mood to have to dodge people in the isles today.
I am working on putting together a puzzle. I can waste a lot of time doing that. Time goes by quickly when I get engrossed in the puzzle. This one is extra hard as the pieces are not square and even. You never know what to look for as the piece can only fill half the spot. The puzzle has a lot of the same colors although it so color is not even a big clue. It will take me a week or so to finish this one.
Jim is going back to Stillwater on Tuesday so I put the cleaning project on hold until he leaves again. I will have time next week to get the rest of the house deep cleaned. I’m over half way done. When the wedding gets closer I will have to redo some rooms but if they have been deep cleaned I will only have to pick clean them.
Next Thursday I have to go to Topeka for an appointment with my gastroenterologist to rule out IBS. Tuesday I need to go to Emporia and have lab work done to check my thyroid levels. It sure seems to take a lot to keep my body going these days. If it wasn’t for doctor appointments I wouldn’t get out much.
I took a nap this afternoon. I sure wish I could fall asleep at night as quickly as I do when I take naps. I slept for an hour and one-half. I had slept last night – just not for long stretches without waking up for long stretches. Sure makes for a long night when I do that.
Grateful for cookies in the freezer, grateful for pulled chicken leftovers, and grateful Jim is home for the weekend.
