It has been a lazy day in the mountains today. I have needed to stay close to the bathroom today so have stayed in the cabin. It is in the high 50’s with rain off and on all day. A good day to stay in and be lazy.

Our cabin didn’t have any extra blankets. I was grateful we had a second bedroom that had blankets on the beds I could steal from and stay warm last night. It was in the low 50’s overnight and cold.

The rain is to move out over the next couple of days and the sun will return. Thinking tomorrow will be another day in the cabin and then hoping we will get out and about Monday. I have lots of books to read and knitting I can do so will stay busy.

I took a nap today just because I could. It felt good to snuggle under the blankets and warm up a bit. I am grateful I brought jeans, socks and jackets this year. The housekeeping department sent a guy over this afternoon to bring us some blankets. They were out of them when Jim went looking for some this morning.

The guy that brought us blankets is a college student. He said they are running very short of staff this summer and have been very busy trying to keep up with all the guests that have come. They have reduced services in an effort to stay ahead but we can tell things are changing. It will be interesting to me to see how this shortage of staffing continues to unfold and change the way we have become used to things being handled. Not only here at the camp but in all other areas in my life.

Life sure seems simple here in the cabin. We have easy food to fix and are warm and dry. No TV or distractions to bring the outside world in. The problems of the world feel a long ways away right now. Nice to escape the news for a bit.

I just read an article about our local hospital and the challenges they are facing transferring patients to a higher level of care. Not only COVID patients but those that need procedures that the local hospital can’t provide. The pandemic has certainly uncovered the weak areas in our society. I don’t think we can go back to the way things were before. We need some major policy changes to adapt to our new norms. It will be an interesting couple years coming up to see where this all shakes out.

Grateful for a quiet day in the mountains, grateful for a break from the news, and grateful to be reminded to be grateful for the simple things in life.
