Went to a military promotion ceremony this afternoon.  A friend of Jim’s is in the Reserves and was promoted.  The ceremony was held at the church where our wedding is going to be.  They had a reception in the same area where ours will be so it was good to see how the traffic flowed and where to set things up at.

Before the ceremony the family had gone in to sit in their assigned seats.  I was out in the reception area waiting for Jim to finish a conversation he was having with someone.  I was looking around the area and noticed they had forgotten to put forks out for the cake they were going to serve afterwards.  I went in the kitchen and found some and put them on the table.

The guy that got promoted was hoping to have his father pin him but his father got put in the hospital.  They set up a phone so the dad could see the ceremony.

There were about 40 – 50 people there.  I kept an eye on the cake to see how much they used.  I’m still not sure I ordered enough cake.  I would hate to run out yet I don’t want too much left over.  They had a 11 x 14 sheet cake and didn’t quite serve all of it.  They had fairly big pieces though.  The one I ordered is a two layer 12 x 12.  Sure would help to know how many people are coming.

We were by Lowe’s afterwards.  Jim got a new microwave oven that has a vent for the stove attached.  It requires a cabinet above it so he found a plain cabinet to hang above the microwave.  He also got a piece of plywood to build a box for the dishwasher that he is going to install.

We talked at dinner about what needs to be done to the kitchen after the dishwasher and microwave gets installed.  Jim needs to get the cabinet doors made and then sanded and all the cabinets painted.  We will need to remove the linoleum and bring the wood floor back to life.  He also needs to do something to the counter tops and put in a backsplash of some sort.  The walls will need repaired and painted.  After he broke it all down for me I have a better idea of what needs to be done.

It is exciting to see some progress being made though.  Our goal is to have the kitchen done before the wedding in March.  We would also like to finish the back room but am not counting on that.

Tried a new recipe for dinner tonight.  I had thawed some chicken tenders.  Went on-line and found a recipe.  I dipped the tenders in butter than rolled them in a Parmesan cheese spice mixture and baked them for 25 minutes.  They were good although I will adjust some of the spices next time.  Made an easy dinner.

We took a two mile walk before dinner.  My feet are a bit sore from yesterdays long walk but I am doing my best to ignore them.  It was warmer walking today than yesterday.  It sprinkled a bit while we were at Lowe’s but by the time we took our walk the rain had moved on and we didn’t get wet walking.

Tomorrow morning we will go to church.  They have their annual meeting after worship followed by a lunch of some sort.  Hopefully when we get home from church we will get some more work done in the kitchen.

I hope next week won’t be as busy as this week has been.  We didn’t find much time to get much work done on the house.  I have to go to tax school on Monday for two hours so I can get my hands on a Chrome book and learn some basics.  Thursday I go to Subaru school to learn about the systems in my car.  Other than that I don’t have anything on my calendar.  We have tickets to a piano concert Tuesday night.

Monday I hope to mail the invitations to the wedding and reception in Strong City.  I’ll have to remind Jim to get the rest of the wedding invitations addressed so we can get them mailed Monday.

Grateful to have spent some time in the reception area of the church so I can plan better now, grateful progress is being made in the kitchen, grateful for another nice walk today.
