It was a busy morning for me. I went to the Olpe Meat Locker and picked up the other half of the beef. I came home and counted and sorted it and put away 3/4 of it in my freezer. I delivered the other 1/4 of it to my neighbor.
I was grateful I found room in my freezers for all the beef. I would have run out of room if I had kept all of it. I have been working to get the freezers cleaned out but still have some things I need to get used up. I feel rich having two freezers full, the propane purchased for the winter and the hay stocked up for the chickens. I am ready for winter!
I went to Emporia to watch Tagen’s football scrimmage. When I got there I ran into Ellexia and she asked me to go pick up Tagen’s girlfriend. I did that and then came back and watched the last part of the scrimmage. Tagen only played for a couple of plays and I was able to be there for those.
I brought his girlfriend to the house and when Tagen got here I fixed them lunch. They hung out for a while and then went to his other grandmother’s house for a birthday party for Tagen’s Uncle.
I fell asleep in my corner chair and slept for an hour or so. I was still tired from yesterday’s adventures. I had stayed up late last night waiting for Tagen to get home from his football outing. He texted me at midnight and he still hadn’t gotten to Emporia. He decided to spend the night at his dad’s house as he had to be at the High School at 8:00 this morning. Staying in town gave him an extra hour of sleep last night. He was one tired puppy this afternoon.
We had a storm rolled through during the night. I had a wind gust of 48.6MPH. I was afraid the piles of shingles that are on my roof would blow off but haven’t seen evidence of that in the daylight. We only ended up with 0.17 of an inch of rain. West and north of here got some good rain last night. At least the storm blew in a cold front and it was only in the mid 80’s today. I welcome the cooler weather after having a week of over 105 everyday.
Don’t have much I need to do today or tomorrow so will take some chill time. Monday I will need to make some phone calls and try to keep the hail damage project moving. The Pella guy is to come Monday afternoon to give me a bid on replacing the 20 doors and windows.
The roofing guys will be here early Monday morning to get started replacing the roof. I might need to plan an escape Monday and Tuesday while the pounding is going on. I’ll see how much of it I can take.
I will need to get a big stock of chicken feed one day next week. I still have one bag left so it isn’t urgent. I will need to stock about 10 bags before I leave for vacation September 7. The dogs will need a couple bags stocked ahead too.
Ellexia will be back Sunday night. I will have to remember to pack two lunches each morning next week. They only have school four days next week.
I need to give some thought about stocking the pantry while I am gone too. Michelle will have to get milk, bread and those type of things while I am gone. Hard to predict how much food I will need to stock while I am gone. Guess Michelle can fill in the missing pieces as needed.
I am struggling to get excited about the trip to England, Ireland and Scotland. Not sure what is behind that. The hail damage kinda threw a kink in my plans and I don’t like the thought of leaving all that undone. Sure hoping I can get the windows and siding decisions made and contracts signed before I leave. That would give me a bit of peace of mind.
I keep hearing about the rising numbers of Covid cases again. Crossing my fingers and toes that I won’t encounter it on my trip. I have already had it twice and don’t need to go for the third time. I have a bit of anxiety thinking about getting it while I am on the trip. That would not be fun by any means.
Need to go down and do chicken chores. Hoping the girls will have given me close to two dozen eggs today. This week the egg production dropped off a bit due to the heat. Can’t say I blame the girls though. Laying an egg looks like hard work and it was too hot to work hard this week.
Feeling a bit anxious and restless today. It will be good for me to have a quiet day at home tomorrow. I can’t do much about moving the hail damage project along on Sunday so I can set that aside and enjoy the day. It is to be clear and only in the mid 80’s tomorrow so maybe I can get out and take a walk in nature and try to walk off this restlessness.
Grateful to see Tagen play football today, grateful the beef is in my freezers, and grateful for the cooler temperatures.
