Another miracle on the prairie today. My plumber showed up and installed the new kitchen sink faucet and fixed the water line to the refrigerator. I had called him the middle of April to do this little project and he finally came today. So happy to cross that off my pending list.
I went to Emporia this afternoon. I had received a bid for propane from Co-Ag Propane out of Hillsboro. MFA Propane is my supplier and they will price match propane for your annual contract. Co-Ag was $0.14 a gallon cheaper. I saved $140 by getting a bid from Co-Ag and taking it to the MFA office. I took the Co-Ag bid into MFA and they adjusted my contract price to match the Co-Ag price. I’ll take savings like that any day!
Ellexia spent the night with a friend in Emporia so she hasn’t been around today. It has just been Kathy, Tagen and I hanging around today. It has been a quiet and easy day for me. I haven’t managed to get much done but am soaking in the silence and peace on the prairie.
It feels good to get the propane purchased for the winter. My freezers will be full of beef in another three weeks and I will be ready for winter. It reached over 100 here on the prairie today and I am thinking ahead to the cold, dark days of winter.
Next week I will need to make a trip to Olpe and give the butcher my cutting instructions for the beef. Nicole is taking a quarter and wanted some different cuts then I normally get. They always do a nice job cutting the beef up.
Tagen brought up 16 eggs today. He took a watermelon down to the girls this afternoon. It helps keep them hydrated in this heat. They get two watermelons a week when the temperatures are this high. So far I haven’t lost any of the chickens due to heat stroke. When the temperatures get this high, that is always a possibility.
We saw some huge thunderstorms to the east of us last night. Unfortunately we didn’t get any rain out of them. The storm that came down from Salina ran out of rain before it hit my corner of the prairie. We sure need rain badly. It is fair week this week and next in Emporia and that usually means we get some rain sometime during the next ten days or so.
I am hosting a family reunion the 19th of August and need to get reminder letters out to my family members later this week. I could have up to 80 people show up for a meal that day. I also need to finalize my lunch plans and get things ordered and a list made. We shall see who all comes. It it always a good day when extended family members show up.
I need to get out and do some mowing. I may wait until after dinner to do it as it is so hot outside. I am fixing the kiddos spaghetti and meat balls for dinner. Ellexia is bringing a friend with her so will be feeding five tonight. Kathy fixes her own food most of the time. The kiddos favorite meal is spaghetti and meat balls so I know they will eat lots tonight.
I need to remember to go to town Saturday and get a case of CO peaches. They are one of my favorites. I love to bake them sliced up in some butter with cinnamon and pecans sprinkled on top. Makes a wonderful dessert or side dish. They are good cold or warm.
There is a full moon Tuesday night. There will be a second full moon in August at the end of the month called a Blue Moon. I love watching the full moon rise on the prairie.
I feel like I have been able to refill myself from the cruise. It seems like I have been home a lot longer than three days. I really am a homebody and prefer staying home to getting out. Time to start preparing myself in many different ways for my three weeks in Europe in September.
Sitting in a good head space this afternoon. I feel like I am a step or two about the neutral level of consciousness. It was such a relief to get the plumber out here and get that project crossed off my list. I hate pending things when I have no control over when they might get done.
Grateful the plumber showed up today, grateful for all the beautiful eggs my girls are giving us, and grateful the propane is purchased for the winter.
