My last full day in Maine. After breakfast we went to Hazel’s brother’s house. He drove us to the Bangor bus station. We took a two and one half hour bus ride to Portland.
Hazel’s niece’s husband met us at the Portland bus station. We stopped at a sandwich stop and ate lunch. Then he very graciously gave us a tour of the coastal area of the city. We stopped at several light houses and beaches. The coast here is rocky. The sun was out and it was a beautiful day to see the ocean.
After our tour we went to his house where we will be spending the night. I will head to the airport around 5:30 in the morning so I can catch my 7:05 flight to Chicago. I have a little over an hour lay over in Chicago before my flight to Manhattan. Hoping to be home by 3:00.
It has been a very restful time for me. Last night we had one last kayak adventure that was cut short due to rain. I got to see the sunset from the kayak which I had been missing.
I will have two full days at home before I leave Friday morning with Jim to go to Estes Park in CO for a two week stay. We have some plans after that so won’t be back home until July 24.
I’m so grateful to my student intern for caring for my critters during the week and friends that come out to care for them on the weekends. It is nice to be able to get away without worry.
Maine is a beautiful state. It doesn’t call to me to come live here though. Not a lot of racial diversity in the state. Lots of clean fresh air and lots of trees and ponds and lakes.
I’m ready to be home again. I miss my wide open spaces.
Grateful for the hospitality Hazel’s family has shown me, grateful to see the ocean today, and grateful to be going home tomorrow.
