I had my first physical therapy appointment today.  I really liked the lady I worked with.  She explained how the bunion formed and how it has impacted the arch in my foot.  She showed me a set of exercises I am to do twice a day.  My foot isn’t too sore tonight but I can tell it was worked today.

I walked a half of a mile this morning and again this evening.  I am doing better with the crutches and walking in a more normal gait.  I trust I am putting half my weight on the crutches – not sure how to measure that.

We went to Walmart after my appointment.  I needed to get a hot pad and an arch support insole for my shoes the therapist recommended.  I also got some cocoa butter that she recommended I rub on my foot twice a day.  The therapist said it would heal quicker if I keep the skin moist.

I go back to PT Thursday and then again next Tuesday.  I don’t know if the surgeon will order more sessions when I go in Sept 4 or not.  I almost wished I could go back to this lady if he does but I will be back in KS after that appointment.

The therapist recommended I have the surgery to fix the other bunion as quick as allowed.  She said if I delay it too long I will have to fix my gait again on the foot I just had done.  That makes sense so will get it scheduled around the first of November.

When I was at Walmart I picked up some yarn.  I am almost done with the third set of tea towels I have been working on since I had surgery.  I needed something else to work on when I get them done.  I had the needles for the project I want to do with me and printed a copy of the pattern off the internet.  I’ll get the project started this evening or tomorrow.

It feels good to be out moving around a bit more.  I still have to sit more than I can move and it is hard to do much using two crutches most of the time.  But I am almost halfway through this and my healing is progressing as or even better than expected. Jim continues to take good care of me and make it as easy as possible for me to do nothing.  His hand is healing although he said it was sore today.  The swelling is going down and he can close his fist a bit tighter each day.

Grateful to have found a great physical therapist, grateful to be out walking a bit again, and grateful for being almost halfway through this!
