Happy Spring Equinox to all. A day of balance between light and dark and the traditional first day of Spring. The prairie is starting to green up and spring flowers are blooming. It is a beautiful time of the year.
We went to the new investment property this afternoon to work for several hours. I got some painting done after Jim helped me remove all the lower set of cabinet doors. He worked on tearing down the old garage. Neither of us finished our projects but it felt good to get a couple solid hours of work done. I helped Jim haul lots of garage boards to the dumpster after I painted for a couple of hours.
I talked to the neighbor next door who happens to be a handyman. He came in the house and I showed him three rooms that need lots of attention – the laundry room, bathroom and back porch. I am going to get a key made to the house and then he is going to start working on all three rooms as he has time. Since he lives right next door he can come over for an hour or so and get some work done in any free time he has as he won’t have any drive time. Jim has way too many other projects to do and if we don’t hire some help this house won’t get done.
I’m hoping I will hear from the electrician next week and find out when he is coming. He needs to get that work done before the handyman can do some of what he needs to do.
I took a nap this afternoon before we went to town. Jim took a hike while I slept. It was another beautiful spring day on the prairie.
I had laid out some hamburger so when we got home I quickly turned the grill on and grilled hamburgers for dinner. Made some hash browns for Jim and green beans for me. I like easy dinners like that and it only took 20 minutes to fix dinner. Tomorrow I have one of the free range chickens thawing and I will put it in the crock pot before we go work in town and dinner will almost be ready for us when we get home.
We plan on going back tomorrow to work for another couple of hours. We have a stack of boards by the dumpster from the old garage that need put into the dumpster before it goes away Tuesday. I want to get some more painting done. I would like to get the bottom cabinets done so I can then get started on the top ones next week. I need to look at the hinges as I would like to order new hinges for all the cabinets so they will all be alike. Some of the doors have a circle hole drilled in them that the hinge fits in though so not sure that I will be able to find hinges that will work for all. We will see what I can find. If I add pull knobs I think it will help give the cabinets a new look too.
I didn’t get a chance to try the new wall paint as we drove Jim’s car and the paint was in mine. Maybe tomorrow I will take the wall paint and see if it will work. I will make it work for at least one room as I don’t want to waste it. I will paint the big bedroom closet with it if nothing else.
We have a busy week shaping up for next week. Tomorrow we need to get some more work done on the investment property. Monday the internet guy is coming to hopefully solve our internet problem. We also need to go to Emporia Monday for a feed haul and to run some other errands and I have egg deliveries to make. Tuesday we are going to Stillwater to bring back Jim’s other car and two car loads of stuff. The dumpster is going away Tuesday. Wednesday the furnace guy is coming to find out why the furnace at our house is leaking water on the floor. Jim teaches his class on Thursday. We need to get some more work on the investment property most days too.
It felt good to get in town and get some work done today. If the handyman can get those three rooms done over the next month or so I can get the other rooms painted and Jim can handle the little things that need done to them. Maybe we can get this house rented by June 1. There is still a lot of yard work that needs done and the outside of the house needs painted so June 1 may be an ambitious goal.
Grateful to have gotten some painting done today, grateful Jim got started tearing the garage down, and grateful my neighbor agreed to do some work on the house.
