Jim and I drove up to Mount Mitchell today.  It was a beautiful drive on a curvy road through the mountains.  Mt Mitchell is the highest point in the USA east of the Mississippi.  The leaves are just starting to turn.  It will be especially beautiful in another two or three weeks.

We had lunch at the restaurant at the top.  We drove on up afterwards and were going to walk to the observation tower but when we got there it was raining.  I didn’t want to get my boot wet and the sidewalk was wet and I didn’t want to slip.  We turned around and came back down the mountains.

I knitted for a bit this afternoon and evening.  We sat out on the deck and listened to the rain hit the trees and drip down to the ground late afternoon.  The smell was delicious and the sound soothing.

After dinner I was tired as I woke up at 4:00 this morning and couldn’t go back to sleep.  I did my foot exercises and went to bed.  I only slept for about 30 minutes and woke up and couldn’t go back to sleep.  I am hoping I will get tired soon and be able to get some sleep.  Tomorrow is the Celebration of Life Service for Jim’s niece.  Jim and I are passing out programs to those that attend.  They are expecting up to 300 people.

We will be heading for home Sunday early afternoon and will arrive in OK sometime on Monday.  Tuesday I have a doctor’s appointment in Wichita and than will drive on to KS.  Jim starts teaching one of his classes in Stillwater on Thursday.

My foot had a good day.  I didn’t use the crutches much at all today.  It is a bit cranky tonight but it is a full moon and thinking that is why it is cranky.  Trusting it will calm down in a bit and I will be able to sleep.

Grateful for a beautiful drive today, grateful for the rain and the beautiful sounds it makes, and grateful my foot is continuing to heal.
