We had a safe drive to the Y Camp in Estes Park. We stopped at the big grocery store when we got into Estes Park and got what we needed and then came to camp. It took about an hour to get the car unloaded and everything put away. It is nice to be in the mountains again.
It is 57 here this evening. I’m grateful I remembered to bring sweat pants, socks and jackets this year. We drove through a bit of rain but missed the heavy stuff they had gotten earlier today.
As we drove into camp we saw a huge bull elk. While we were unloading the car their were three mommy mule deer and two babies in our yard. I love seeing the wildlife that is in the camp.
I made the trip with only needing one emergency bathroom stop. I think we stopped about six times altogether for gas, potty breaks and lunch. Traffic was a bit heavy around Denver but otherwise a pretty easy trip.
We don’t have any plans for tomorrow except to sleep in late and take a rest and recovery day. It will take me several days to adjust to the altitude. I have a bit of a headache this evening. I will need to drink lots of water tomorrow as that seems to help.
When we would stop and go into truck stops or restaurants I didn’t see hardly anyone else wearing face masks. I got funny looks from people as I wore mine. There sure seems to be a disconnect between the spread of the virus and people’s behavior. I understand everyone is tired of sheltering in place and wearing masks but until more people are vaccinated and the virus spread is slowed it sure seems appropriate to mask up again.
Grateful for a safe trip to our home away from home, grateful for the cooler temperatures in the mountains, and grateful for the wildlife that shares this space with us.
