This day went by fast. Not sure why but before I knew it the sun was setting.
Met with the lady in charge of the local tax preparation program today. She answered a lot of my questions about how they run their program and what her expectations of me will be. They do things a bit differently than Emporia does. They don’t make appointments so everyone is a walk-in. They run the program mornings and afternoons on Mondays and Wednesday and afternoons on Tuesday. They also do one Saturday morning a month.
They take however many of us volunteers that are available to work each shift. They prefer we each work at least two shifts a week but several work all five. It is no big deal if I need to be gone. They also review each other’s returns instead of having a person that only does the reviews.
Found out their training is different also. I need to take the ethics tests on my own as they don’t cover that material in class. Came home after I met with her and took both of the ethics tests. I got 100% on each of them so that is good. I am still a bit confused about the other tests I have to take. I’ll see how comfortable I am with the material and may go ahead and attempt to take them before our training. You only need 80% to pass and you get two chances.
Thursday next week is a class for the first timers. I am going to go to that even though I am doing them for the second year. I need to get a password, etc. as I am not fully in the Oklahoma data base. It will also give me a chance to meet some of the people I will be working with and get comfortable with them. The following week is the three days of training that I will need to attend. Their is someone coming from the state of Oklahoma to teach us how to do the state tax return. That will be different for me this year.
After I was done with that meeting I stopped by the grocery store and got things to make White Chicken Chili for dinner. I used the rest of the roasted chicken I had gotten at Costco yesterday. We ate part of it last night so it gave us several meals. What a deal – they are only $4.99. The White Chicken Chili turned out really good. Had enough left over to freeze one container for a meal in the future and still have one container for lunch tomorrow.
Finished making the jig saw puzzle I had been working on. There were two missing pieces when I was done but finally found them this evening..
Need to spend some time reading the manual to my new car. It has some buttons that I don’t know what they are. Luckily a Subaru and a Toyota almost run the same so the lights, wipers, etc. are in the place I expect them to be. The learning curve hasn’t been too steep.
We have an appointment to meet with the preacher next Monday. She requires four counseling sessions before she will perform a wedding. Still trying to nail down a date but am getting closer to finding one. We will find out Monday what her availability and the church availability is. Once we have a date and place I can start planning.
Still haven’t gotten any mail that I had forwarded. Hope I didn’t make a mistake in having the mail forwarded. Seems like it should have caught up with me by now. I’ve been here two and one-half weeks. Maybe tomorrow will be my lucky day and I will get a bunch of it.
Not sure what the plan is tomorrow. We really need to get the garage cleaned out so we can get the back porch cleared. Jim got distracted today and played with his wood chipper instead. That job needed done and it cleaned up the back yard. There are so many tasks it is hard to know which one to do first.
Grateful to have the tax preparation project started, grateful for good White Chicken Chili, and grateful I found the missing two pieces to the puzzle.
